Why does Kohaku have cat ears sometimes?

I am new to this series and I never read Tsukihime, is there a reasoning why she sometimes has cat ears or is it just an aesthetic thing?

Probably the same reason why she sometimes starts a fight in a Obi-Wan Kenobi outfit from New Hope.

That is understandable lol, I actually started reading it a while ago but barely got into it. I was curious if there is an "explanation" as to why so I am guessing from your response the answer is yes and I will find out more in the visual novel.

The doylist reason is because she's the comedy character of the two maids. I dunno if there's a lore reason though.

Because cat ears are cute which is fitting for Kohakus cheerful personality.

But yea, read the VN if you want to know more about her. This game doesn't really go over any of the characters story stuff.

It's because Akiha calls Kohaku a thieving cat in Kohaku's route in the original Tsukihime.
The cloak and a good chunk of her move set, including the China dress, are references to Kagetsu Tohya, a sorta-sequel to the original Tsukihime.

Basically because she's supposed to be a funny character. There's a lot of jokes about her and Type Moon gave her even more. It's only when the new routes come to the VN when you'll see serious stuff about her.
