This is a $30 game at best.
I know a lot of you think "I'll play it for hundreds of hours that justifies the price"
Okay, that's fine i'm not saying you will regret the purchase.
However think about this. AAA game with hundreds of millions of dollars spent in development are at a standard $60 on release. Now i know what you're thinking "this is a fighting game, it has a niche audience." That's true, but its still in the same market, it still uses the same resources, same development methods, same platforms to release its product. The main point being the (VERY WELL KNOWN) standard for a supposedly top notch game is and has been for decades $60 (USD). All video game companies know this.

Hollow knight, dead cells, hades, all these games release for under $30. (not fighting games, just here for perspective)
under night in birth exe late clr released for $40.
melty blood TL $50
DBFZ $60

Melty blood with its (to put lightly) lacking roster of 13 characters including what I consider to be practically smash echo fighters, never to have any major updates until the next $50 release... How? How are they okay asking this much money?

How do people not realize this is set up for the ones saying "I'll play it for a long time so I get my moneys worth." I've played many, many hours of minesweeper yet I would never spend $50 on it. Without the game going on sale it will never be worth what they are asking, and the dlc on the store page for this game is insulting.

Idk this gets under my skin. Just seems like its taking advantage of its fans. Yeah its fun, but its fun with a bad taste in my mouth :(

Ok.

I completely understand your sentiment. New fighting games often times feel way too expensive, especially when you know they will or already have stapled character DLC to it on the first day instead of just giving you those characters to begin with. There are also times where you just bought the complete edition of the old one for less than a quarter of the price of the new game (ahem ahem, Xrd, or even MBAACC for less), while the new game fundamentally only offers maybe 1/2 the "content" because people really mostly care about how many and what characters they can play. There's also playing on the FOMO that comes with a new game that people keep saying "it'll kill the old one, oh i'm playing the new game and its sick right now you should get it too, fighting games in their first week/month are the best time to play because everyone is figuring out new tech"... It's a hard sell to someone who isn't already a megafan of the franchise.

However, French Bread is small, they had to resprite everyone by hand into the HD style, balance and rebalance Melty characters with the new system mechanics, shoehorn 3 new characters into the franchise, and they've got TM and Delightworks on their neck so it very well could have been them pushing the price of the game and not FB.

Finally, the DLC isn't that serious, it's just announcer voices and an art book, not a day 1 Season Pass, what's the problem with that? Why do people keep mentioning it as "Day 1 DLC" like it's 5 characters they'll be missing out on like GGST? I honestly think the Day 1 DLC trend has people traumatized, and I can't even blame them.

I agree with you here. I also think this was most likely the case, and I really want to believe they deserve the money, but even with street fighter 5 when it came out it wasn't the biggest heartbreak if the game wasn't perfect because we all knew it would change. This is how modern fighting games seem to be.

For instance I have base street fighter on PC. I play akuma, i like akuma, I dont need to re-buy the game when new characters come out. It makes no difference to me what system/version I play it on. In melty bloods case wont I just be paying $50 for the next "expansion" when the next game comes out? I would honestly just rather DLC characters so I can still play the same game and same character without it being dropped by every single person. Instead I gotta fork over another $50. Thats too much for this kind of system.

Game dev ain't cheap. LabZero once illustrated that developing a single character for Skullgirls costs in the $200-$250k range, with costs including $50k for paying their (at the time) eight core staff members for ten weeks. $30k in animation and clean-up contracting. $4k for the voice acting sessions for that one character, $20k in QA testing, and so on and so forth. And if you repeat that process thirteen times then you might see why they're selling this for $60.

And for what it's worth, Street Fighter II on the SNES launched at $60 in 1992 (~$110 in today's money) with just eight playable characters.

At least it's not $80 - $100 like most the other fighting games with their season passes and buying the roster piece by piece. But no Nero no buy anyway.

Nero has no place in this game, this is a melty blood game, not a Fate game, outta here with that ♥♥♥♥♥ lol. Btw, I love Fate, but we need more characters that belong to this franchise, we have enough with the cash cow blue saber.

You are aware that there is a Character in Melty named Nero.

But yeah, putting in Saber over someone superior like Nero or someone more recogniceable like Mash is really a bummer.

tbf, four of the smash echos are basically glorified skins, and Lucina is literally a copy of marth with a single change

and Ken shouldnt be considered an echo imo, he is an entirely different char

All chars can do the universal BcBc combo, but other than that i think they all play differently to a degree, that youll prefer certain chars over others by a long shot, but i agree that the roster shoudlve contain about 5 more chars (i prefer compact metas, i dont like having too many chars tbh)

I like saber a lot, I really like that shes in the game, but for the love of god... nero has the most interesting/unique character design in the tsukihime story IMO. What a shame.

I agree, as most fighting games.

It was a 15 dolar purchase for me so I don't mind.
