To be fair the only instances where you need to press up when jumping is to use the grappling hook iirc, so calling it bad design is not exactly correct when the fault lies mostly in the player's muscle memory...

... that said, having wasted the ultimate a couple times too because of this, I wouldn't mind seeing it changed, lol

It is bad game design, you know how easy is to accidentally press up with a stick?

the lack of control configuration options on this game is staggering bad.

Ok I just realized I don’t have to press up while jumping / guess I’ll have it be precise with my button press. Still a mappable button prompt would be nice

No in fact I don't know, I always play with keyboard; even still, I was under the impression people used the d-pad in this kind of games, what advantage does the analog give you aside slightly faster reaction?
I'm not arguing a different option would be better, but seeing people hiding behind the "bad design" card for every little thing is getting old. This is not an unarguable universal problem.

I switch back and forth between using the d-pad and joystick on my gamepad and have literally never accidentally used my special. The joystick is more useful for accurately targeting lanterns when you're using the hook.

But, to be fair, there are a lot of gamepads out there that have very bad d-pads. The Xbox 360 controller in particular has an absolutely awful d-pad that regularly registers directions you didn't push, and it's unfortunately also very commonly used as a PC controller. I could definitely see somebody with a 360 controller unintentionally hitting "up" when they're just moving left or right.

This annoyed me too. it's easy for me to accidentally hit the up button, especially if I was swimming before that, I sometimes hit it without even thinking. Wish that would have been a separate key that I could rebind.
