Some questions about the story [SPOILER ALERT]

Recently finished the game, got all the endings, loved the good ending, so wholesome. Decided to do a replay to just test the things I learned from my previous playthrough, and some things come to mind:

1. Who knocked out caroline at the start? since we know that she goes back to the past to get her past self's eye, but we only find past caroline already in the bathtub, and the game didn't really show who knocked her out in the first place.

2. wtf happened to william after he reveals the button for the painting that has the last tape. Did he just wander off after that and does anyone have an idea where he went off to?

3. Where did the corpse in the maternity ward run off to after doing the heart puzzle? We only hear a scream after we leave the room.

4. Who raised caroline after she fell off the bridge when they were running away from the men in suits? and what happened to her foster parents?

I still have a few more questions, but I think these would be more important. Story is pretty good, but I think it leaves more questions than answers. Although I may have skimmed some of the story parts since some of them are only related to puzzles.

I'm pretty sure that William knocks you out. There's a note somewhere saying he found a new test subject, and it's implied that's you IIRC.

It is mentioned that William was the one who did it in his entry, he also points out his carelessness that he didn't lock the door properly since she has escaped when he comes back for her

Just adding to the suspense I suppose, it is never clear who she was. Seeing as you haven't yet changed the past to make that other creature roam around yet it probably wasn't that at least.

4. Who raised caroline after she fell off the bridge when they were running away from the men in suits? and what happened to her foster parents?

It's never explained, only implied that she lived a happy life. But she's 24 so maybe they died or she moved out. Aside from her journal there isn't much to go on.

I still have a few more questions, but I think these would be more important. Story is pretty good, but I think it leaves more questions than answers. Although I may have skimmed some of the story parts since some of them are only related to puzzles.

It's party good and partly confusing at times. I hope the sequel is going to clear some things up.

Also considering the fact that most of the monsters/patients are naked, it's probably for experimentation, easier access to.. certain body parts.
