How Do I Save
I played for an hour and died. Now I have to start over? Where the hell are the ink ribbons or whatever?

The save system here is fine, and works very well to elevate tension in games of this type. If you don't like playing games with stakes or tension, you don't have to; and if you absolutely must see this game without putting in a little effort, "casual mode" already exists: YouTube.
Having you do the same task OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN isn't an interesting, engaging, or fun way to introduce tension. It's boring, tedious, and frustrating. Especially because you can dying to an enemy guaranteed to hit you as you leave a room, locking you into a death you if you have no hp items to heal before leaving. Just don't play the game is just a nothing response.

If you are dying OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN in the same place, the game is not the problem.

I've only died in the same area twice and I'm already sick of it. Also given how enemies can hit you as you exit a room, it is completely possible to get soft locked if you save while being low health.

I'm sorry you're having a bad time. However, this is what happens when games have stakes. Some of us appreciate having a real cost for failure and the tension this introduces. Seriously, this design is intentional because some people like it. They didn't just forget to give you unlimited saves. Honestly: if you can't stand having to pay for mistakes, this type of game (and probably horror games in general) are simply not for you, and that's okay. It's impossible for every game to be the perfect game for every player.

this game is literally a tribute to Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Including difficulties to save. And I love that. As you say, it is not for every player out there.
