Where's That Durn Battery?

I am at the point in the game where, for the life of me, I can't seem to find the battery that's needed to power certain doors or a lift. I've searched everywhere but I can't find it and I'm stuck in the game. The only items I have to my name is a stethoscope, a bottle of nitric acid, a bold that a priest found in his soup, and a lock. Does anybody know where I go or do next? Thanks for your time and any assistance.

I believe it is too early to need the battery based on the items you have so far. There are things you should be able to do with the items in your inventory before needing the battery to progress.
