Question about the map

Do the room colors on the map have any meaning? At first I thought green means fully cleared and red means there's still something to do, but that doesn't always seem the case. For example in the public restrooms I picked up the one item that was in it and killed the enemy then again thoroughly searched the room but there's nothing left in it, nothing to interact with, but it's still colored red on the map.

Maps are static and never change and the game will not keep track of any leftover enemies or items in rooms.

Green means hallways.
Red means regular rooms.
