The lantern secret switch thing is way more obscure.
I've missed the broken light too my first time around, but only because I forgot I read about it in a previous note. Once I re-checked that entry, it was fairly obvious.
Maybe a small primer for the player wouldn't be so bad. "Between you and the game, you have all the tools you need to get Caroline through her ordeal. Good luck."
The gist of the note is that there was a flickering lamp somewhere (the note tells Maternity Ward, but I don't think at this point of the demo I even had an opportunity to visit said location, so I didn't really know anything about it), in turn a maintenance guy wanted to change the lamp, yet was stopped by some old man. Now, because at this point in time Maternity Ward was a mistery to me, I assumed it could have been the only lamp there, so in order to change the lamp it had to be first removed completely, plunging the whole place into darkness, at which point everyone around could have been killed by said darkness before a new lamp could have been installed, prompting the old man to interfere. This is how explained it to myself at the moment and as soon as the event was explained and rationalized, I forgot about it for good.
Pretty much exactly what happened to me.
From the statue; the military man comes from the Pentagon (the US government building)
From the door; the alien comes from the stars, the pharaoh comes from the pyramid, and the wasp comes from the honeycomb (hexagon) nest.
It was a decent design for the puzzle, but the pentagon clue was not very intuitive as the primary clue because it was a somewhat obscure reference to identify. Perhaps it could be a different shape with a more intuitive clue for players to identify and start off with? I initially thought there was a hard code to find and follow like the others here thought and I think that's what threw me off the scent first.
I think the image for the star should be an actual star honestly. When I think of how stars look and how they're drawn, an X is the last thing I would ever think about.
