I'm OK but this game should fix and balance for more casual players.
Not everyone want to play Hard mode.
Yea pretty much every area has one nailbox of ammo and on the next door enemy/enemies
Sadly, I didn't realize you could use the crowbar as a weapon until basically the end of the game, so I went into the final areas with very little ammo. They gave me just enough to get through though, so good balance in that regard.
I must say, the game needs a button that makes the character turn 180 degrees, like in RE games. It'd be very useful in battles.
It has, I think its even the same as in RE, press backwards and Running together I think.
I've just lost 2 hours of play time because I didn't manage to make it to a save room whilst Caroline casually just stands around ignoring inputs with no sense of urgency whilst getting slowly maimed by some new enemy crawling across the floor at her.
The game doesn't need an "easy mode" it needs balancing.
Not wasting my time replaying the time I just lost, it just goes into the bin and I go find something better to play.
The trick is
1: keep your eyes open for ammo. Like... make sure to check every room once you're sure it's safe. There's a ton of it in this game, so just look for it.
2: avoid the enemies if you can. There's enough ammo that you shouldn't need to... but every enemy you avoid is a few nails saved.
3: If you are unsure if you can avoid them... try to kill them. Especially if they're in one of your main paths. Obviously, weight your ammo vs how hard it is to kill them, but spending 6 nails is way better than using a heal every other time you pass through a room.
If you do fight...
1: Keep your distance. Everything in this game is slower than you, and everything but the crowbar has better range than them.
2: Take your time. Get to a safe distance, fire of a couple shots, then reposition. There were a few halls where it was hard to have the damage output to put something down before it got close, but typically you'll have complete control of the engagement.
3: take cheap shots when they're down with the crowbar... but don't actually 'fight' monsters with it. Shoot em or run.
Also, big invulnerable enemies that continually hunt you are a thing in these games. There's exactly 1 in this game. Don't sink your ammo stores into it.
And most importantly... If you leave the room to make them go back to their original places, give them plenty of time. They tend to show up exactly where you left them if you don't give em a few minutes, which can lead to wasted health items.
Huh... I don't think I agree? The girl does die insanely quick when she starts taking damage, and the crowbar is way less effective than the knife in RE games (imho... not good enough to use those often myself), but otherwise it seemed pretty functional to me.
Is it the tank controls? I played with a controller, but the girl always seemed quite responsive to me, except for maybe how slow she lowered her weapon. But then, I had a joypad and she moved whichever direction. if you had a keyboard, maybe it'd be different.
Idk. Sorry man, your experience sounds way different than mine. I don't want to invalidate but... not what i experienced.
Tape to save I can see though. I finished with 4 or 5 extra and that was with knowing this was classic survival horror you don’t really want to save unless get some decent progress. The beginning was really tight on tapes I only had 1 or 2 extra and again that was with me knowing I had to horde them a bit. I could see that being a stress on new players. I only died 3 times, two being towards the end because I got sloppy having so much excess healing items I was just trying to crowbar down enemies while tanking hits 😂. Good thing about these games though is even if you die and lose an hour of progress, you know exactly what you did and how to solve any puzzles so getting back that hour of lost progress takes 10 minutes.
Just wanted to chime in for anyone that might be in the fence and read this thread thinking the game might be too hard for them. It’s definitely doable ending with a surplus of supplies if you plan ahead and use all the tools available when fighting enemies. Great game, hope there is a sequel or another classic survival horror in a different setting. They captured the feeling of PlayStation RE games really well.
