Fight sticks
Been contemplating getting one for a while now, but the fear of paying 160+ bucks for one and turning out to hate it has been keeping me away , what’s the general consensus for using them ? Are they really better for fighting games ?

I learned to use a stick with SF4 because I hated the 360 dpad, but would never have moved to stick otherwise. Now that I've made the jump its my personal preference.

If I were making the leap to something else today I'd go to keyboard or leverless. If youre going to learn a new method I think this is the best way to go.

I've tried leverless and hate it, but I also acknowledge that my execution on a stick isn't the best and that my Guile play would be 10x better if I learned keyboard/leverless.

That's not my experience with Hori. The RAP V Hayabusa is sufficiently heavy for lap play.

Fight stick won't give you any real advantage. You should only get one if you really want to play stick. Pad is just as good as stick, and leverless is arguably the best fighting game controller, once you get used to it.

i've never heard of anyone do a standing 720 on pad
jus putting it out there lol

in fact i never heard of that on a kb/leverless either

yea execution takes time, but like all musical/instruments etc
once u get the hang of it it's really fun and almost hard to put down

leverless/kb makes u look like a cubicle dork hahahahaha

Anyone can win with any device if they're skilled enough. SonicFox is a pad player and I've seen one grand final won with a steering wheel.

Instead of seeking advantage, I'd advise seeking comfort. If you're not feeling any kind of physical strain from pad, I'd stick with it. If you have cramping issues with pads or thumb blisters, stick will tax your hands less (And leverless even less than stick if you're carpel tunnel prone).

If you're in a position to seek luxury, Stick has a distinct vibe to it that pad can't evoke, but that could just be my nostalgia talking.

100% agreed. Arcade stick to play long sessions of fighting games, and to 1cc Shmups is the best to me. Since I like playing old arcade games, stick was easy choice.

I prefer using Pads but the Tournament Fight Sticks are perfect for playing Street Fighter games like this one. I highly recommend spending the money for one.

You get perfect respond timing. It just feels perfect. It makes those difficult combos extremely easy to use in a real tournament like EVO or rank and casual matches. -- I even use it for playing games like Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA 3, 4 and 5.

The Hayabusa is about 2/3rds of the weight of my Pearl. I wouldn't mind the pearl being a bit heavier either. I was thinking more of their smaller intro level sticks though, which they don't even seem to make anymore outside of the Mini. I use my whole arm for motions though, not just my wrist.

The Pearl is also no longer available new, at least directly from Qanba in the US. Obisdian 2 looks like a good alternative there though.

leverless is better

Not true

purely preferential

The Birds don't have any problems winning tournaments on sticks, amongst other high profile players

Like the old saying goes, whatever works for you.

Just because someone won with something, does not mean that thing the best. Just because leverless is [objectively] better than X, does not mean X is bad by any means.

But yes, you should use what you are most comfortable with and most fun to you. They are all very efficient and nothing is necessarily.

Personally I rotate between all, as I learned them all in SF6. Pad is most convenient because I am too lazy to pick up my hitbox/stick lol.

Probably somebody told this, I didn't read the whole thread, but you don't really need arcade stick if you didn't have huge arcade experience before. It doesn't make your motion inputs better - you still will need to learn how to use it and it may take a lot of time.

The real game changer is a hitbox, but in the most cases you don't really need one. Just use your keyboard with UP input mapped at space button. It's like demo version of device. If you'll like it - go on. Also it's a bit cheaper. Big ones with Sanwa buttons a way better than cheap mini - it allow you to do a bit more cool stuff with sliding.

Oh and nobody mention it, but there's no better device for [m]odern than gamepad because of unadaptable layout. You may get some easier inputs like manual SPD, but lose ergonomic and speed. Maybe custom layout hitboxes works, but like come on, it's pretty specific thing.
