Drive Rush Tutorial help please
Hello, I'm stuck at the Drive Rush tutorial. I'm using Modern controls.
The mission:

"Luke's crouching heavy attack is a cancelable normal attack.
Throw out a crouching heavy attack and quickly input forward twice the moment it connects to cancel. Try doing a Drive Rush after you cancel."

I don't exaggerate if I say I now have tried this more than a thousand times. I just doesn't work. If I input the forward->forward really fast after the crouching heavy punch, nothing happens. If I do it a bit slower, Luke does a normal forward dash.

The biggest issue with these tutorials is that it doesn't give you an example, I'm doubting if I'm even doing the correct move. I also can't find any video on Youtube showing how these tutorials should be done unfortunately.

The crouching heavy attack is pressing down + heavy attack button, resulting in Luke moving his fist upwards, is that correct?
So it's Down + Heavy attack, as soon as the hit lands, forward->forward, correct?
If so - any idea why that absolutely doesn't work for me?

FINALLY :D

Again I tried this for 15 minutes without succeeding, but then finally it happened.
Couldn't reproduce it again, but now in the training mode I could see the difference in input delays between my one succesfull and 594858 unsuccesfull attempts.

The only difference between those tries was the time my stick was in neutral after the crouching heavy punch combo.

For it to work - I need to do the crouching heavy punch and then simply immediately, lightning fast do the forward-forward.

Those numbers before the input in the Training mode - I don't know if their are milliseconds or something? But for my succesfull attemps those varied between 1 and 4 for all the moves. Any higher than that and it didn't work. In the failed attempts the neutral was around 10-20, I was waiting too long..

Those numbers are frames. The game runs at 60fps.

Hahah, congrats:)

The numbers on the left are frames which are roughly miliseconds. So yeah, you can't afford waiting 10 or even 5 seconds to connect into a special move or drive rush. Got to be as fast as you did it that time.

Try to test how slow is acceptable enough for the game to register the move corretly. Just to test boundaries and feel out the connections, you know.

You dash by hitting forward twice. You can dash, right?

The next layer is the drive rush cancel. You do heavy punch then immediately do a dash. If your drive rush isn't coming out, you're LATE. You should glow green and use 3 bars. The window to input this is still pretty large since it's a heavy - about 1/3 a second after the button. It will just feel like you have to mash as fast as possible because you aren't used to the window yet.

Then you do another move from the drive rush, but this isn't in the trial yet. It's the next one (although they have you start with a parry, which is a cheaper way to get drive rushes). The drive rush also takes a little while to happen and allow you to act, so there's another window, called buffer, here. If your normal doesn't come out, you're too EARLY. If it comes out and Luke blocks it, you were late. This, even with the buffer, is a little strict.

And I just tried the trial specifically. It's a standing heavy punch. Don't do crouches, make sure you return to neutral before each forward input or the dash won't be a dash.

I'm going to do the tutorial again now that I managed to do this in training mode, but are you sure about it being a standing heavy punch? I posted the description in my original post, it literally says to do a crouching heavy punch :-/
Maybe you're confusing the Tutorials with the Combo trials?

Yes thanks :D I'm sure I'm the champion of having tried this the most times before I got it working :D I tried to do it a bit slower but then I came to the conclusing that all the moves need to be 5 or less frames. I did one where there were some at 7 and 8 and that didn't work.
I have to experiment more with other moves, but that crouching heavy punch from Luke connects really fast so maybe the input needs to be a bit faster than for some other moves. Lots of learning to do here ;)
I just did some more testing - in all the tries where the Neutral (after the crouch move) had a frametime of max 6 it worked. In all the tries where N was 7 or higher it didn't register.

I think doing this on a dpad might be more easier than on a fightstick? All the other moves are easily done in 2 or 3 frametimesecondthingies, but the return to neutral and then pushing forward.. I really need to focus if I want to do that within 6 frametimesecondthingies.

I use a controller but I play with the joystick not the dpad. Personally I end up getting more inputs than I want on a dpad cause I have big thumbs.

You if you're trying to get a cancel, you have to be fast, but you shouldn't be doing it on reaction to the hit. You should be preemptively pressing the forwards assuming you're going to land the hit. There isn't really a bad aspect to using drive rush as it can keep you safe when you do moves that could result in being negative.

The good news is that I can do them consistently now after all that practice. Just did some matches and it worked every time. IT FELT SO GOOD :D

pretty much. d-pad is really good for this game.

and congrats :SF6_Punch:

Thanks :) And I'll see if there are ways to improve the stick of the Rap4.. it's quite loose in the center which makes it a bit harder to be consistent. Or I just need tons of more practice. Probably the latter.

A frame (at 60 fps) is about 16.66 milliseconds. So you were probably one off with the decimal point in your mind/memory.

Huge kudos on sticking it out! I would have given up long ago, probably.
I don't know much about fighsticks, but if there is a way to configure the deadzone, that might help.

Ah yes that one was no problem, but the tutorial after that is doing the drive rush after a crouching punch, that one gave me all the troubles :)

Hehe thanks :) I tried it with a gamepad/dpad yesterday and that was way, way easier. But many other moves are much easier with the fightstick and I enjoy using that one more.
Found some ways to mod it, inserting a stiffer spring so it snaps back to neutral more easily and another mod to make the movement of the stick a bit shorter.
Just ordered the parts, seems like these mods will help a lot.
