Again I tried this for 15 minutes without succeeding, but then finally it happened.
Couldn't reproduce it again, but now in the training mode I could see the difference in input delays between my one succesfull and 594858 unsuccesfull attempts.
The only difference between those tries was the time my stick was in neutral after the crouching heavy punch combo.
For it to work - I need to do the crouching heavy punch and then simply immediately, lightning fast do the forward-forward.
Those numbers before the input in the Training mode - I don't know if their are milliseconds or something? But for my succesfull attemps those varied between 1 and 4 for all the moves. Any higher than that and it didn't work. In the failed attempts the neutral was around 10-20, I was waiting too long..
The numbers on the left are frames which are roughly miliseconds. So yeah, you can't afford waiting 10 or even 5 seconds to connect into a special move or drive rush. Got to be as fast as you did it that time.
Try to test how slow is acceptable enough for the game to register the move corretly. Just to test boundaries and feel out the connections, you know.
I'm going to do the tutorial again now that I managed to do this in training mode, but are you sure about it being a standing heavy punch? I posted the description in my original post, it literally says to do a crouching heavy punch :-/
Maybe you're confusing the Tutorials with the Combo trials?
Yes thanks :D I'm sure I'm the champion of having tried this the most times before I got it working :D I tried to do it a bit slower but then I came to the conclusing that all the moves need to be 5 or less frames. I did one where there were some at 7 and 8 and that didn't work.
I have to experiment more with other moves, but that crouching heavy punch from Luke connects really fast so maybe the input needs to be a bit faster than for some other moves. Lots of learning to do here ;)
I think doing this on a dpad might be more easier than on a fightstick? All the other moves are easily done in 2 or 3 frametimesecondthingies, but the return to neutral and then pushing forward.. I really need to focus if I want to do that within 6 frametimesecondthingies.
You if you're trying to get a cancel, you have to be fast, but you shouldn't be doing it on reaction to the hit. You should be preemptively pressing the forwards assuming you're going to land the hit. There isn't really a bad aspect to using drive rush as it can keep you safe when you do moves that could result in being negative.
The good news is that I can do them consistently now after all that practice. Just did some matches and it worked every time. IT FELT SO GOOD :D
and congrats

A frame (at 60 fps) is about 16.66 milliseconds. So you were probably one off with the decimal point in your mind/memory.
Huge kudos on sticking it out! I would have given up long ago, probably.
I don't know much about fighsticks, but if there is a way to configure the deadzone, that might help.
Ah yes that one was no problem, but the tutorial after that is doing the drive rush after a crouching punch, that one gave me all the troubles :)
Hehe thanks :) I tried it with a gamepad/dpad yesterday and that was way, way easier. But many other moves are much easier with the fightstick and I enjoy using that one more.
Found some ways to mod it, inserting a stiffer spring so it snaps back to neutral more easily and another mod to make the movement of the stick a bit shorter.
Just ordered the parts, seems like these mods will help a lot.
