Agreed! I wish they would buff Kim a bit more tho
I think there is a healthy balance to be struck between old favourites, reworks or variations of familiar characters and new combatants.
Yeah, pretty much this. I also would love it to see a studio like Capcom being able to go "screw it, we're just going to bring to life these brand new characters because we're really excited about bringing these new ideas to life", but that wouldn't generate the hype and sales that the guys holding the purse strings would be happy with.
Let's face it, the Street Fighter community might like A.K.I. now, but given that she was a brand new character going up against Akuma, Ed, and Rashid, you can be sure that she was the least interesting addition to the Season 1 pass back when that was first announced.
And another good example is the reaction to the GG -Strive- Season 4 reveal. You can tell by the crowd's reaction what they think is more exciting:
Returning character Dizzy: Explosion of excitement.
Returning character Venom: Another explosion.
Brand new character Unika: No added explosion, and the excitement just feels like a continuation of the reaction to the previous two characters.
Just the words "Guest character" in the style of Cyberpunk 2077: Biggest explosion of excitement before they even reveal which character it is.
People get excited for the things they know, not for brand new unknown character. It's a bit sad, but that's just how it is.
I think this is a bad example because Rashid and Ed werent exactly SF staples and A.K.I.s initial info sounded pretty interesting.
Ed ended up being well received despite many saying he was a wasted slot. I still think a lot of people would have preferred someone else over Rashid.
If anything I think A.K.I is an example that suggests there would be quite a bit of support for a season of entirely new characters.
It's easier to make new arrivals appealing in newer franchises, SF is an almost 40 year old IP. Also, Capcom will never, ever, say f it lets just try a bunch of new stuff when they have a board of directors to apease and sales markers to reach.
They already added a few characters into this game that are new to the series with alot of them simply missing the mark completely.
Id much rather them go the safe route, pick some hype characters, put out a strong season 3, and maybe they could do new stuff for season 4.
