Seems like you got the right mind set.
Then again you might enjoy more watching competitive matches on youtube than actually playing the game which is my case at the moment.
Also getting a key off steam might give you a better deal I got the game for around 35 bucks with the first season pass included this past summer.
+ Devs. update the single player content with every released & upcoming DLC fighter.
Word tour is leagues better than what soul caliber did imho. I actually didn't even mind world tour much. It's for sure not great by conventional standards if it were to be judged as a game on its own. It's definitely grind focused. Id say also it would help if you have a pretty good desktop since there are a ton of NPCs in that mode which drags down performance.
But it's catchy, I ended up enjoying the grind and it has a decent feeling of power progression with the skill tree, unlocked moves, supers and ways to outfit your player to buff damage. You can upgrade clothing for buffs as well. So it does a lot of things OK which add up to an experience that I think is way better than just reading text based content before fighting the match like in soul caliber. I'm not certain that's why soul caliber was as it's been awhile but I'm pretty sure it's a lot of text based engagement. Wasn't my thing.
World tour is quite possibly the best Single Player mode in a fighting game imho.
They managed to make it fun while also teaching you how to play the game.
Before this, SF gameplay never made sense to me, I liked the characters and art, but but felt the gameplay just wasn't for me. But now I know enough to enjoy.
It even made like characters I had zero interest in XD You go and talk to them and learn about their background and I am like "Oh! Oh this character is actually cool!" And it made me like my fav characters more.
And after you're done with that, you can play other "regular modes" like Arcade, Extreme battle (my fav) and Team battle.
And in Battle Hub you can play V-Rival which is a little bit like Ghost Battle in Tekken games. Li-Fen is there to cheer you up and give you pointers, it is cute and sometimes helpful.
I've honestly gotten a lot more playtime than I ever expected to get out of a SF game XD
It’s a lengthy brawler that has your avatar meet all of the cast of SF6 and learn their move sets from them. Focus is mainly on toturializarion but I found WT to be reasonably fun in its own right.
Now I am somewhat of a noob when it comes to SF, but when I was reading on WT before I buy the game, it was mentioned often that it takes a while to beat.
Maybe 20 hours if you're already very good and can beat all the OP opponents lol
But not only that! Every DLC character so far has gotten a chapter in WT, for free, so you can go see them and enroll as their student, learned their moves... etc. So it is something you can come back to as new charterers become available.
It's supposed to acts more as a sort of tutorial and character introduction for players unfamiliar with the series.
But I still got a good bit of fun out of it. The dlc characters are all added for free to world tour mode, so you always get a bit of new content whenever a character releases.
And I'd say labbing combos for the Avatar can be pretty fun.
And, though you can clear the World Tour mode without any fighting game skill, still it's same game with same fighting mechanic.
So it actually helps to grow your skill in Battle Hub or Fighting Ground.
Especially you use Classic control.
