How is Honda low tier?
So I just got absolutely washed by a plat 5 Honda 8-0 in a set using Juri and I just want to know why Honda is low tier. If he really was low tier, then how did I lose that badly using a top tier?

Seems like Juri isn't all that if we go by this matchup rank at 1800+ mmr. Still it's a fair matchup between her and Honda.

most of honda is knowledge check

The percentage of victories in ranked battles of your opponent's Honda is more than 75%. He's better than Platinum 5. Tier lists don't mean anything at this level.
You can DP or DI a lot of his moves with practice

His whiff punish game is awful, he has no throw loop, his primary neutral tools are extremely predictable and he has no actual answers to perfect parry.

He's also extremely knowledge check focused as most of his setups can be answered with something universal like an OS beats both if you know it.

He tends to utterly steam roll until you get to the best of players then he never wins anything ever again.

Tiers do not matter in the same way at the level you play at so at that level Hondas strong.

You lost because you don't know the match-up well enough, this is the universal answer whenever you make one of these threads. Stop being so invested in tier lists and stop trying pull them into question whenever you get washed. The tier lists are usually not wrong and they don't apply to our skill levels.

Because the other player was better than you.

He can carry you from Rookie 1 to Platinum 1 without sweat but good luck getting out of Platinum with him.

I don't know about that. It was diamond 3 with 72% win rate before I had to learn my first combo with him I think he can carry easy to 3-4 then you gotta learn to play him for the last stretch.

Of course that was last season.

Diamond is now filled with ppl on master playing tertiary character so they usually gatekept at plat5 by a diamond 1
Perfect parry

I don't get why people take what pro players say about tiers. They complement their opinion not an actual fact.
Peddie Oct 19, 2024 @ 8:35am
Yeah I can't imagine why people think that people who play the game for a living and have the deepest level of understanding compared to anyone else would know what makes a good character.

You can use fireballs or dragon punch to punish headbutt.
Pretty sure you can dragon punch butt-slam too (might be wrong about that), but because of the knock-back that got added to it you can just block it and he doesn't get anything out of it anyway. (he used to be able to set-up a 50/50 grab situation before with butt slam)
Perfect parry will punish both
And hundred hand slap can just be punished on block

That's about all Honda has to scrub people out. Learn those counters and you'll destroy him most of the time.

Honda doesn't have good combo routes
He doesn't have strong buttons or neutral options. In fact, he's pretty stubby
Doesn't have good ways to get in because his options for getting in get easily punished by good players

Honda just spams like 3 moves that can all be punished, but that's about all he's got going for him, so he just keeps up the pressure and hopes the other player doesn't remember any of the counters or messes up the timing.

Yeah, guess that's why Japanese players have different opinion from others, and game developers different from all of them. Funny how that works.
