A re-release would do, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't want a remake. Original is too iconic man.
Capcom should just port this game to modern platforms like they did with Killer7, just give us the basic enhanced features for current and future displays and they won't have to spend a whole lot of money just to port the game which many fans have been asking for a while now.
Also, more people need to ask Capcom to also bring Haunting Grounds for modern consoles. That game is severely underrated and has close ties to the development of the original Resident Evil 4 before getting turned into it's own game like DMC 1 did.
So while yes, it is undeniably a cult classic, it ended up being quite a headache for Capcom because they dared to trust Mikami to do whatever he wanted and still deliver a game that would at least break even.
But as it stands there is little reason for Capcom to believe a rerelease won't tank as hard as the original. Especially now that gamers expect even more in regards to intuitive controls than they did in 2006. (See also the MGS1 rerelease on Steam having tons of negative reviews where gamers are upset it looks and plays like a PS1 game, even though the Steam page literally says it's a PS1 game)
God Hand was neither a major success or a failure, it sold moderately okay but didn't do RE4 numbers of sales. The sales projections for that game were fairly modest. The only thing that soured that game's reputation was that infamous IGN review which people have been memeing on still to this day. The game itself deserves to be released on PC platforms like Steam and GOG for purposes of preservation. No other game comes close to the depth of gameplay that game offers.
And better go tell Mikami he's been lying about his own game.

I mean hell if something like Lollipop Chainsaw can get a re-release and only suffer from lack of licensed tracks then God Hand deserves its moment to shine too. These two nowadays feel so fresh and are some of the funniest games ever made.
Considering how grimdark the atmosphere of most Devil May Cry games are, God Hand feels kind of refreshing in the modern day to have some crude jokes and slapstick humor and not so many corny MCU jokes.
- Capcom has more lucrative IPs to mine first (Rival Schools. Mega Man. Dino Crisis apparently)
- Even as a cult classic, God Hand's fan base is probably not large enough to warrant a profitable port.
- Modernizing the game would require substantial effort. The tank controls were novel in its time for a beat-em-up but modern audiences would probably find them inaccessible.
- Some of its humor aged poorly. Clown me if you must.
I love God Hand. I replay it almost annually and it's a treat every time I do. I'm lucky Mikami was given a green light to make a game essentially for me. However, if I'm being realistic, it's never coming back.
Pff, twice, thrice, if not more.
Two gay bosses and their portrayal? Comedy gold. One of them having an accident during a war? Absolute madness.
Mad Midget Five, their name alone is insanity, and the fact that Gene mocks the red one with a baby voice and the fact that he can STOMP them is making me laugh so much harder.
Making fun of overweight? Yep, its there alright, Gene even calls one goon out by saying he could never be a ninja due to his weight.
I don't care if someone gets offended by it, its funny and I'll never pretend its not.
