Newb question
Hi, I have a question regarding moves like blanka or honda back special move (I am using modern controls), why can't I do them in an instant? Like for example if I just go for back special, they will perform their neutral special instead of back one. I have to wait a little bit moving backwards or crouching (can't exactly tell the delay either-sometimes it feels like I have to wait 2 sec, other times it feels like 0,5 sec). Can I somehow use those moves without having to wait? It makes them predictable af.

i dunno about modern controls input, but these moves requier a charge (holding input for some time, like: charge b, f + p for blanca). I think its the same with modern controls.

They are "Charge" moves, which makes their power a bit stronger due to having to "time" the attack come out at a specific time instead of a simple "motion" (or some other option for Modern). Last thing I'd want to constantly defend against a near safe use of Blanka ball. Adding the "Charge" gives a bit of a buffer for the foe.

I see. What is the exact duration I have to charge them? Is it always the same?

As far as I know, All charges are Back or Down first. What I recall, Modern only does the first step of the move, so "Back" for Blanka Ball, Sonic Boom, ect. while "Down" for Spinning Bird, Flash Kick (I mean "Somersault kick".. .pft), ect. Always check your Move Lists in the Pause Menu when you can. If there's a "Yellow" Arrow, it's a charge (I think it's Yellow)

And how do I charge the jump ball roll then?

Beats me, since you're using modern. More so since I dono Blanka's moves in this one anyways. You'll have to check the in game move list. I bet it's just hold back while jumping then pressing the button when needed. Charge moves can still charge as long as you're holding the direction you want. Example, I usually charge back when I crouch then hit forward and a strength I want to use and it'll pop. So you can do the same with jumping.

Modern I don't know. Classic charge characters like Guile the player can usually throw a sonic or flashlight all the time because they're generally holding back or buffering all the time. It takes muscle memory and pattern habit.

It's the age old guile sonic boom and the other player rushes or jumps in instantly flash kicked.

Blankas roll should be the same as guides sonic, dee jays fireball, hondas full screen headbutt, etc

Go to the training mode and in the settings turn on the input history for P1. Hold down or back for 50 frames and then press the button. 50f seems to be the minimum.

And to make yourself less obvious combine the back and down charges by holding down-back. It's the same input as blocking most attacks so you opponent is less likely to know what you're doing. Then when you want to do a special you shift your input. If down-back on P1 side on the numberpad is 1 then you go 14+SP for Rolling Attack or 12+SP for Vertical Rolling Attack.
