The remarkable thing is, this is such a SIMPLE fix that it's bizarre that anyone would fail to implement it on a release, on any platform.
Of course, Steam no longer sells this game, so I guess I shouldn't be shocked that the problem isn't being fixed by them. (Technically, they should require the vendor to fix it, as I'm not sure that they are legally allowed to "alter" a product!)
But that's ONE WORD, in ONE CONFIG FILE, which needs to be altered, in order for the game to operate as designed.
And, let's be clear... I've owned this game for years and never played it, because of this program error which has, evidently, always been there. I'd start the first level and never make it past the "get your teammates" bit.
It's a terrible bit of programming... and a total lack of documentation, to boot... which makes the issue even worse. I kept trying to figure out what I was not understanding, and what I was supposed to be doing that I wasn't in order to give orders to my squad.
And then, I discover that I was doing it right all along, and that the problem, all along, was a silly programming mistake which nobody ever bothered to fix. Technically, not even a "programming error" for that matter, just a "config file error."
I've slowed down my game purchases in the past few years... for one part, because I already have a ton of them, but for another, because I'm sick and tired of buggy, unplayable pieces of @#$* being foisted on me.
I pretty much shop GoG these days, if I shop at all.
