This construction issue has been mentioned before,
There's been many suggestions for increasing the build speed.
- What level is the Village or small Town at?
- How many workers are assigned to the storehouse?
These could be intended limiting factors for the early game.
As the player progresses with building there Town some new features could be added to increase the speed of construction. There were elements in the game code that Greg may introduce soon?
"Logistics" was one new item. Allowing for more or near instant supply of construction materials to arrive at sites. (not in game yet and may be a policies item?)
"Engineering" as another new feature, for 1/2 cost of building.
not sure where this or how this will be introduced? Development or new Policy?
Back to the stone transport;
- the player knows how many stone are needed for each build, the storehouse will know, but the game still sends single workers carrying small amounts or only what they can carry on there backpack.
- The storehouse has hand carts. Why are they not used to move all the stone at one time?
(I'm sure your thinking this also.)
- The storehouse does the same thing for mining, picks up only a few materials at a time with single workers, Where's that hand cart now?
- Perhaps Greg wants it this way so a future feature will show improvement in building material movement?
- Will there be Mules or horses added as an upgrade for the storehouse to allow for animal carts to move large amounts of materials at once? (it would be nice, especially for the Manor build)
1. The settlment is at Large village size, with 55 families.
2. 2 workers at the main storage (the one where all the stone is btw) and one at the secondary storage.
I'm not really complaining about building speed, it's fine when it works as intended :)
In my case, however, the problem is the free workers just refuse to go and take the stone, instead just hanging around the build site doing nothing, but occasionally one of them will go and bring in one stone, and then go back to waiting.
I decided to test one of my savefiles.
I've had 6 unassigned families, and a building site with 1 out of 5 stones (all other materials are at max).
Test 1: just let the game run as is. It takes the workers ~1,5 months to bring in those 4 stone
Test 2: increase the number of unassigned workers at the cost of unrelated buildings from 6 to 10. The process seems to speed up, but only by a few days.
Test 3: Increase the number of storage workers at the cost of unrealted buildings. No change at all
Test 4: Decrease the number of unassigned workers to 3. The process slows down by ~ 10 days.
Test 5: Remove ALL the workers from the main storage, where the stone is. BINGO! The process skyrockets to just ~6 days total. This is around what i'd expect it to take in normal situation.
My conclusion - the storage house where the stone is is somehow broken. It still functions, i can see materials being transported to and from it, but something is wrong with it.
Guess i'll try rebuilding it from scratch. Problem is, it holds ~2000 items, and there's no method to directly order a transfer to a different storage =/
