Can't start game

I can no longer start the game. As soon as I attempt to start, I get an error message "Couldn't Start: ManorLords-Win64-Shipping.exe" (shortened version) Avast says its infected with IDP.Generic, and was moved to Quarantine. I play on Steam, restarted computer, downloaded updated video card, verified integrity of files, all to no avail. Please help. Thank you.

I had this issue and thanks to your thread I discovered it was an issue with Avast. I was able to resolve the issue by going into Avast and doing the following:

Protection > Quarantine > The file that is being detected as a false positive for malware by Avast should be at the top of the list. Choose the (...) on the right hand side (next to the delete / trash can icon) and select "Restore and add exception". It should take the file out of quarantine and stop flagging it as malware in the future.

Same problem I am having now. I have 14 hours into the game, but now the game won't open up. The initial screen comes up, but then goes back to the desktop (to whatever I had open at that time, like steam). I also play through Steam, this is the first issue I have had. When I verify files, it finds one file missing, so then it attempts to download it. That file loaded the first time, but the game still crashed (after restarting Steam and computer). The 2nd time this download failed, saying there was a device write error. Something changed within the last 5 hours or so, because I was playing earlier with no problems.

Yes, same here with Avast one. Weird, because I have been playing with the same .exe for days. Afaik there has been no update to it.

Antivirus software usually check for and update virus databases on a daily basis.

Yes, but this is not a specific threat. IDP.generic is simply the AV saying "this looks a little bit like something that could steal your private information".

When does Avast say that?
When you try to launch the game in Steam? When you scan the Manor Lords game folder?
And what does Avast do, does it quarantine the file it detected as IDP.generic?

I have AVG antivirus and I haven't seen any problems with it, and the same thing happens to me

The game hasn't changed. If you played fine a few hours prior it is something on your end. And in this case everyone keeps reporting this error with IDP.generic so it's obvious where the issue is. Add exeptions for the game or uninstall your 3rd party antivirus, verify the game files. Use Windows 10 or 11 Defender instead.

If that doesn't work you can always install the antivirus software again later.
