Lords of the Realm 2 was awesome, later on the first stronghold was even better.
Now I remember the cows, dairy products and beef, should I eat the cows now or starve later on to death.
Really loved the mechanics and the artstyle.
This game has elements that remind me of it, Stronghold, and the visuals and animations of modern indie city builders. The city building aspect is (so far) rather simplistic, which imo fits with the RTS element merging - eg, maybe one wouldn't want too much city building complexity if one is also dealing with the RTS elements.
This can make the city-building/no combat sandbox mode feel less challenging or deep, if that's what one was hoping for. But I like it - it's more chill, I can control when population/town grows vs. feeling forced to always grow *right now* because I can't control population growth. Heh.
I agree stone needs more use - about the only reason I use it is multiple granaries. Maybe there could eventually be a level 4 house, or one could have Lvl3 houses require 1 stone perhaps.
One of the things that made lord of the realms so great and gave me and my friends years of fun was that it was multiplayer. Manor Lords lacks that so I'm afraid for it's longevity.
On a side note in regards to cattle, while I don't know if cows will eventually be added to the game, you can get sheep and oxen, although you can't really eat either of them yet, which you would think would be an option for sheep once you have enough sheep. Although maybe you can, it's been a while since I played Manor Lords, and I usually have some sort of critical resource failure causing my settlement to collapse long before I get around to playing with a large flock of sheep.
As for oxen, maybe they could give oxen a lifespan when you buy them, and an ox would drop dead in it's tracks when it hit that limit. Then, if you had a butcher . . .
You know that in real life, if an ox dropped dead, Wamba and Gurth would have daggers out and be all over that thing while it was still warm.
