Not sure what they hype was about here.....
This looks like a nice game and the premise is decent, but this absolutely is not going to be some sort of legendary game as the hype suggests.

There already are better games than this out there, I know the Manor Lords is EA and has stuff to add, but I just can't envisage it beating games already out there.

I think for the Village building Ostriv might be better..... The way it simulates economy is excellent and I enjoyed the building up of my settlement a lot more.

Overall Songs of Syx is the most similar game comparatively and its miles ahead gameplay wise. I dont think Manor Lords will ever come close.

In terms of the next banished, settlement survival is better at this.

I am not really sure where Manor Lords fits in. It is very slow starting out and the initial building of your village just doesn't feel fun or rewarding. Usually when I play city builders it goes well until it doesn't and then I feel like starting again straight away and making sure I deal with the problem that killed my first settlement.

I don't get this at all with Manor Lords. First bandits are taking things from me every 5 or 10 minutes, but there seems to be no mechanic to combat this at this point. It keeps saying mercenary's are available, but at this point I have no money as it is too slow to set up a trade route and resource and actually bring in money before winter.

Even though I would rather play other games atm, i am going to persevere and try again as I dont want to make a decision until played the game in full, but honestly the hype seems pretty comical to me at this point.

I got tired of clicking on stuff about 15 minutes in. I want a game I can play mentally... :WH3_psycology::jimbo::bananabunk::dinoteeth::chaos::m67::steamthis:

Its about the sum of the parts and not the singular parts themselves. Yes there are games that excel at certain aspects but they are missing out on some other things.

for example syx: one step away from playing excel
Ostriv: pure city builder
banished: probs my most disliked city builder, no idea why, just never could get into it. It is also a pure city builder.
Both ostriv and banished look also alot slower paced, which i do not enjoy.

Most of the issues with manor lord are early access related. game litterly just lunched.

Just thought would be a good discussion. Do you have a personal relationship with this game that means you cannot process critical discussion of it?

Since when has hype ever been correct? That's what makes it hype.

I know. I just thought there might be some basis on this one. I don't think this is a bad game at all, i just cannot believe the hype surrounding it after playing it for a coiuple of hours.

For what it's worth I agree completely. It has this strong "Ostriv but worse" vibe to it.

It's definitely overhyped and needed more time in the oven, not to mention a better vision, because the current gameplay loop is just not satisfying.

It's that case when a game tries to sit on too many chairs at once but ends up falling clumsily to the floor.

For most of us the hype was worth it. We knew what to expect

You'll probably note a lot of content creators either violently trashing the game to get eyeballs, or making wild and sensational positive claims to get eyeballs. Go figure.

I like city/village builders with good graphics, intuitive UI, a non-grid system with freedom to create your village, and not so much economical challenges. I'm rather into painting than into bookkeeping and spredsheets. I like Manor Lords much better than Ostriv, Anno and foundation. So it definitely IS a great game for people like me. However, I noticed over the years that many players want more challenges, they want to "beat" the game, they want to be the fastest to achieve all goals, they want danger and competition. I once read a comment of someone who said "Why should I build a base if nobody wants to destroy it?" My reaction was, that I would not want to build a base if someone would want to destroy it.

You, and probably a lot of other people, got sucked into the hype then, simple as that. You could have watched videos from people playing the demo and the 2 weeks of early preview that content-creators had.

It was never something groundbreaking, it just has a lot of promising ideas that isn't completed/polished yet - burgage plots & extensions, total war-esque battles, and beautiful graphics. Personally I got what I expected system-wise, just a bit more buggy than I expected, but then again, it's in EA.

Also comparing this to Songs of Syx is crazy when they are going for completely different scales and macro.

what is the point of this comment?

Building, Harvesting, Transporting, takes too much time in my Opinion.
Overall, things should happen faster.

While game looks nice, it simply lacks action.
