But yes, the biggest security advantage of Linux is its small user group.
Only Open-Source Users are free ... every one else is slave.
Mythology, although I understand why people in the desktop space think so. It is a small user group on the desktop, but it is also 90% of web servers and close to 100% of military vehicles, In the professional space Linux is used anywhere security and stability are more important than the user. Anything you can think of that has a high probability of being targeted runs Linux. It's not because of the 'small user group' - in a high security environment, Windows is the small user group.
The oversimplified reasons are that you have to be explicit about permissions in ways that Windows just kind of assumes, notably execution of code; and depending on your implementation, each application can run in its own containerised process tree separate from the OS, which I'm sure Windows will catch up on in 10 years and claim for itself.
I saw 2024 test cases were Bitdefender took more resources than norton. Norton anti-virus took out threats when bitdefender did not also the otherway around....once infected all anti-virus scaners are pretty much useless...
and Kaspersky, no thx.
I was a customer for 4 years. Most people who are PC enthusiasts will tell you the same. Its a waste of money unless you visit some really shady sites and might need extra protection.
