Battlefields for territorial disputes also seem to spawn in the same location every time. So once you know the location of a battlefield circle for a certain territory, you may decide to build your manor exactly there and use it for defense.
Fortified manors DO work. Some enemy soldiers might still squeeze "through" the walls, though... it IS early access, after all. And the manor construction stuff is very unfinished. They are still effective force multipliers, especially for ranged units:
