And, you'll need more Oxen to move those Timber to any building site.
- No additional Oxen and nothing will get built.
Normally you'll need one "assigned" to the logging camp, then another to the sawpit.
- Then a few spare.
All extra will be used for moving those logs around the map. (ONLY element in game that can move them)
With that being said, try to keep the number of blueprints you lay down to minimum (like 5-8 burgage plots) so that you don't have to wait forever for more timber. 9erRed is also correct in the sense that more oxen will alleviate the issue. Until you have the finances to order more oxen (I typically have 10-12 per game), assigning one to the lumberyard and sawmill will definitely help.
I usually start the game and make 3 plots veggies (15 coins each) and 3 oxen (20 coins each) which leaves me with 15 coins. Once I reach tier 2 housing, the first thing I buy is another oxen before doing my orchards.
I mention this as the main mechanic you need to focus on is logistics. Make sure you have plenty of storehouses and granaries and keep in mind that only the first 3 of the 6 use carts. The workers using carts move 10 items per trip whereas those without carts only move 1. The closer the respective storage is to production building, the less time spent moving it.
