That guide is blowing smoke up your ass. You should post a link to it so others can avoid it.
Also, you can expand a large enough plot.
So Lvl. 1+2 can house 2 Families, while Lvl. 3 can even house 4!
how can you build a home extension for another family? i click the backyard extension dropdown but only see things like chicken coops and blacksmiths
When you first set up a house you can make it slightly wider and it has an additional building next to it, this then means you get a option to add another family.
And if you get thay building when you upgrade to level 3 you can have 4 families.
There are advantages and disadvantages of doing this. I recommend a mix.
Then there is a 2nd button for this.
Edit:
Now, that's Teamwork, guys!
Almost every plot is capable to get a house-expansion and a backyard.
And I often use the expansion. Mostly, thb.
Do you utilise eggs?
I tend to have most having a house expansion buy as I use eggs as part of my food strategy I limit it to around 65%
Chicken are my default choice, if I don't need veggies or an Artisan.
I use a single plot for chickens, pigs, goats and most artisans. The output for chickens, pigs, and goats does not increase with additional families.
I use double plots for burgages destined for vegetables or apples. And I usually make the bakery a double plot, but I might not build the second residence until I need more bakers. Same with blacksmith if I have rich iron and joiner if I'm exporting wood products.
Personal gardens and orchards should be built as soon as possible after the start of the game. In fact, they should be your first double housed burgage plots.
Farms are for the late game, when you have an abundance of workforce.
gotcha, thanks. and do the personal gardens supply food to the whole town or JUST the individual household? and does it count towards food diversity requirements to upgrade?
