Attacked by the Count and Brigands....
Late game and i had thwarted the brigands coming to attack me so i settled back to experiment with my little town and was quite enjoying it when suddenly a band of brigands and the count both attacked me at the same time (the count laying claim to my region which i didn't think was a thing) with no warning and no time to hire mercenary"s all those hours of planning just went down the gurgler, how is this so?i want to have fights so i dont want to turn everything off and play sandbox as thats a bit boring for me,is there a way to change this?as im quite disappointed and reluctant to play again if this is the game mechanic.

How was there no time to hire mercenaries?

When raiders appear on the edge of the map, the game gives you a warning. You can then pause the game and have all the time in the world to hire mercenaries, if you have the funds to do it. You might even find a band of mercenaries who spawn at the very same edge of the map as the brigands, which makes them perfect at intercepting those raiders before they even get to your settlement.

When the baron lays claim to your territory, you are also warned with a banner and a countdown progress bar that takes quite some time until you actually need to counter the claim. Plenty of time to assemble your troops and call in some mercenaries as well.

That, at least, has been my experience so far. That's why I'm asking. No offense meant.

No offence taken and thanks for the pointers, hiring mercs takes 30 days i believe until they arrive? which is too long for them to even be involved in the fight, when the Baron lays claim im not sure that the bar gives you 30 days for mercs to spawn and then the time taken to get to the battlefield,i had brigands and the Count at the same time which dos'nt seem like a fair game mechanic tbh, just bad luck?.
mercs arrive immediately on the edge of the map as soon as you hire them. How long they take to arrive at the battlefield depends on where exactly they spawn and where exactly that battlefield is. But it is usually not 30 days until they reach a battlefield. The baron's forces arrive on the edge of the map right after you've countered his claim and he's declared war. You should hire all available mercenaries before you do that, because otherwise the baron will bolster his army with them.

Gotya, missed the fact the mercs arrive straight away, cheers for the heads up on the baron grabbing the mercs also.

Greetings,

If the Barons message he wanted your Region and you could contest was missed, you may have been on an advanced time play. at the fast speed it will be gone in seconds.

this special "possibly" game ending message really needs to be constant and time reset to normal. Only removed when the player clicks on it. (for the reply and action)

- But there's the top centre message board that will show a RED indication of "attention" needed.
