Help with brigands
HI, new to the game here. I got raided by brigands after the initial 2 yrs and I had 20 spearmen. They lost but did very well however after this the brigands burned down everything I had built. How am I supposed to beat this? I tried to hire mercenaries, I had the funds through trading but on the merc screen it showed me the units for hire but there was no way/button to hire any. Am I missing something here and does anyone have any tips for getting prepared for the first raid by bandits please?

Thx

For hiring mercs you need funds from your personal treasury, which is different to the regional wealth. You get this early game by clearing out brigand camps (little tent icon on the map). After fighting/clearing these camps you will be presented with an option to either get the loot for the region (regional wealth) or yourself (lords wealth).

Once you have personal funds, the number of which is shown in the upper right section of the UI where your portrait is, you can then open the recruiting screen and choose the farthest right option to get in the mercenary screen. You hire mercs for an initial payment by clicking the red seal icon beneath their unit. This payment will hire this merc squad for 30 days after which they will demand that initial payment again.

Later in game you can get personal wealth by taxing your peoplea percentage of the regional wealth, think of it like the slush fund in Tropico. Hope this helps.

Greetings,

The 20 spearmen set to "hold" tactic should have been enough to defeat the Brigands.

- You had 2 years, and that should have been enough time to build the Manor building, this would have allowed you to also create the starting Retinue of 5.
- Setting the spearmen (in a 2 line formation on Hold your ground) in front of the Retinue for the battle should have easily been enough to "remove" all those Brigands.
thx for the tips guys

You are welcome, also only set 'hold' for the initial charge of the enemy, after that set to 'push forward', the two row formation is indeed the best for this.
