Agreed. Absolutely struggling just to stay a few months stocked in food.
I must be a genius, then... have not changed my playstyle at all, and no problems with food supply whatsoever. Spoilage on or off makes no difference to me.

All screenshots taken on the latest stable branch build. I don't know what y'all seem to be doing wrong, but I simply haven't had this experience. Food is a non-issue.
Ah, nice. I'll take a look soon then. IIRC, it wasn't there during the beta.
...I thought the exact same thing when I first moved out of my parents' house.
I don't, but that's because I read what you post and mostly do that.
I have 6 fisher with the rich + perk. I have just above 200 people and still my town is at limit. And yes, I also have 20 chicken coops and a few goats and soem vegetable gardens.
I always play with spoilage on at normal level, as I feel that might be the intended way to play. I only have a rich pond in the screenshot, no fishing perk and only 3 fishers with a fishing limit set to 360, in order to prevent them from overfishing. My fish supply has been between 100-300 surplus for the whole game every month of every year.
But I also always provide apples and vegetables in bulk to my towns, as well as make every smaller burgage plot backyard a chicken coop extension (except the workshops), and try to also provide either meat or bread in bulk.
The more different food groups you have, the smaller is the amount of food each group needs to actually produce to feed your population.
In the fishing pond town you will see in the screenshot that I am producing meat (albeit in negligible amounts - I later fixed that by importing meat from neighboring meat-focused regions), large amounts of vegetables and apples due to my many gardens and orchards, as well as bread, eggs and honey alongside the fish.
