I use force harvest quite alot particularly when I have too many fields for my farmers, just have to remember to turn it off when it is harvested or they will harvest way too early the next year.
I would prefer it if the game allowed us to continue to harvest into October. I have a save where I have the 2 zones with the best yields supply the other zones with a share of the harvest in return for other goods via pack stations and using the check box to trade only with my own zones.
The trouble is, the number of farmhouses full of 8 farmers results in the zone itself needing so much of the food they harvest because they have just one month to harvest it all. An option to choose 1 or 2 months harvest period in the options, or create a item in the research tree to spend a point on to extend it would be good.
I want, also, to be able to tell my farmers to seed a field with a crop of my choosing and they will immediately set about ploughing. After ploughing, they will immediately proceed to seed the field and then let me know when they have completed their task.
Further, and this is the most important bit, I want to be able to initiate these field by field activities whenever I feel like it. It would be nice, of course, for the game to let me know, with an overlay, every field's current status, fallow, seeding, %grown or harvesting.
I want to control farming, not have the program impose a rigid, calendar-based system on my farmers and me.
Harvesting should take place in September and the fields clearly before the first of October when the Crop Rotation Cycle clicks forward to next years crops.
My guess is that by leaving the crop ungathered you have either lost it because the field has been clicked forward ready to be ploughed for next years crop, or if you are lucky next years crop was also designated as Flax and the crop rotation has simply assumed that by some miracle the crop for next year is already fully matured.
