rye VS bakery
Town 2 rish deposits iron and berries--bad soil but still decided to grow grain it was my 1 town

Got apples and heavy plow and went for rye and put fields on 100% for rye in whole region.
But then it hit me why should i even pick rye over bakery if my logic is corect.

rye=100%
wheat=69% + bakery bunus(X2)= 138%
barley= ♥♥♥♥--> not worth
flex= ♥♥♥♥--> not worth

am i wrong ?

I ended up by placing a community oven as the bread production did even not catch up after putting 2 more backyard bakeries.
To OP‘s question: if everything runs as intended the bakery should be chosen over rye, ideally having both.

You get a bakery bonus for any flour, rye also needs to become flour first.

Well if you unlock both rye and bakery you end up with more bread overall, compared to just wheat and bakery. Obviously this depends on whether you want to use an extra point.

My standard build now for anything other than strong iron deposit - helmets armor path:
apples, charcoal(sell it all), rye, plow, bakeries, honey. Then I let at least one bakery do a stall, and one honey do a stall. The thing to keep in mind is lot's of bread can be used 2 ways - generating giant amounts of influence through tithe AND selling it at 4 each - this means 1 rye/wheat turns into 16 money = 1 wheat/rye = 1 grain = 2 flower = 4 bread x 4 per bread.

I never bother with Rye. Even in infertile regions there's still enough decent farming land to make plenty of bread. I always go for bakeries though if i am planning on doing bread.

Wonder if letting the bakery make stalls plays into this - I have 4 up now, but only let 1 make stalls so far. Now that I've made more market space may let them all make stalls. Notice that if you let stalls be made, it will stock all food types or seems to.

Correct. This can really badly impact your efficiency and why its generally best to leave stalls to storehouse/granary workers, as they have nothing else to do except fetch and carry.

A bakery that has a stall will have its families going all over the place to fetch food from different sources, 1 unit at a time, to fill the market stall.

You can counter this somewhat by setting a limited work area (if the bakery has one), but keep in mind, their work area needs to include wherever they are getting wheat from as well as their stall.

I'll have to turn mine off and see if it makes a difference. What I can say is bakeries really work - have 4 running now, plan to have more as well. Combined with rye its a lot of food.

Plan to sell bread and separately pack station it to my rich clay/iron Zweiau for mail armor.

I think rye is worth it first then the plows and bakeries. I pick honey as my last.

For my rich clay/iron region skipped bakeries and plows - - but having rye offset by getting more food out of a smaller area.
