how many wells ?WATER
anyone got any math behind how and where to put wells to be optimal. Normaly I just put one in start then randomly add some more BUT TODAY IS that new topic to learn.

There is no maths, just put them every four or five houses if you can, plus near important outlying buildings. Faster you can put a fire out the better.

At least one. If you play with extreme weather effects on, random lightning strikes will ignite your houses, so more strategically placed wells will help with firefighting.

Current game have two wells built together at 3 different locations. If you spend some time looking at them you will notice your villagers prefer to stand in line at first well and not use the second well.

I put them near every group of buildings.

Even if you play with weather effects off fires can still start.

One is all we need but i tend to build 3 or 4 in different locations .

I almost build around water access. Before i place the market i make sure these a spot for a well across the street. Thats downtown.
Near the farmhouse/windmill/bakeries site or other building clusters.

They do enough ducking the fog, dont need em wandering across the map for water, too.

I do about the same. One main one near the market, then if I start to get a grouping of houses off some ways, they get one too. Just for firefighting, mostly, but it *looks* right, hah.
They have never complained with just one but I often place wells in small places where nothing else fits or just randomly because several seem more realistic

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3349182333 I like to centre my settlement around a well with a L-shaped marketplace around the well. I think it looks cool. I also like to build my manor close to water so I can build a well inside the palisade. Generally, I build wells wherever it seems sensible to do so. They cost little to construct but they can save villagers a lot of time traipsing to and fro fetching water from half way across the region.

It becomes more important when you have a fire, and quick access to water becomes important.

If you watch the activities of the people at their workplaces and homes, you'll often see them going for water from one or the other site. Having only ONE well means they'll be walking whatever long distances that might be, as from a distant farm, mine, and the like.

So, I try to have additional wells nearer to work areas to reduce the time they use traveling just to get water. It just seems that it should work that way.
