The vigilantes achievement
I started a game of rise to prosperity to get this achievement but when I defeated a group of bandits with my militia the achievement was not triggered. I suppose it is because I tweaked the initial conditions and added things such as bandit camps, ennemies etc. I wonder if changing game goal from "growth" to "none" I will have the same problem, because I'd like to get the 100% approval achievement as well in the same game...

As a rule achievements are invalidated by any fiddling with the default start settings.

For this vigilantes achievement I followed the advices here : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3232578799
They say
Treat your citizens terribly by having insufficient housing, a poor food supply, high taxes – anything to lower your approval. After a while, citizens will turn to thieving for survival and set up bandit camps out in the wild. Draft in a unit of Militia Footmen then attack a bandit camp to unlock the achievement.
So I stopped producing food, I collected high taxes and so on, and my approval reached 0. The families indeed left the town but they didn't build a bandit camp ! So I lost my entire population for nothing.

Do I miss something ?

....uh...yea... That is literally not how it works. Or how its ever worked. That would be the problem there, see?

Just do what it literally says, just go beat up a bandit or two and you will get it.

That guide needs to be taken down, it is spreading false information. Literally a trollpost that is designed to lead players astray and make them quit the game.

But the trouble is there are no bandits in standard Rise to prosperity so what should I do ? I see you got the achievement so it is not impossible to succeed...

....then.... add some? I have faith in you.
Note: Unless an achievement SPECIFICALLY states a difficulty level, you can use whatever settings you want to get it.
If it DOES state a difficulty, you need to use that difficulty WITHOUT changing anything.

Beyond that, there is literally no qualifiers for any of the achievements.
So go beat up the baron on the easiest setting possible with only mercs, get the 'hardest' cheevo. FAITH IN YOU, BOO. GET R'DONE!

As you can see in this previous post I can't change the settings or else the achievement won't fire up...

Start a standard scenario of "Restoring the peace".

Play until you have 30 people in your village. Rally your 20 spearmen militia, eradicate a bandit camp. Achievement unlocked.

But there aren't bandit camps in standard Rise to prosperity, unless I add them but then the achievement won't trigger as stated before.

Pardon me.... I meant "Restoring the peace". Corrected my original comment.

Hmmm... are you sure ? the achievement description specifically says that you must do it in Rise to prosperity mode, at least in the french translation...
madpraxis Nov 1, 2024 @ 2:24am
C'est écrit ?
C'est donc faux.
Traduction directe :
Détruire une escouade de brigands avec une escouade de miliciens dans un mode de jeu sans bataille

And I love you and all, but I'm not going to figure out how to change Steam to French to see for myself, hah.

Ohhh now I remember! Sorry, been some time since I did that achievement!

Ok, so this is an achievement that is an exception from the rule of "don't mess with starting conditions".

You play "Rise to prosperity", but activate bandit camps and set initial bandit camps to 0, maximum number of camps to 5.

You have plenty of time to reach 30 population and get your weapons shipment before the first bandit camp spawns.

Now, this is important: Do only use your militia and not your retinue to defeat the bandits!

Also important: The achievement might not trigger after the first bandit camp was eradicated, but it usually reliably triggers after the second one is destroyed.

If you want to get all achievements in as few campaigns as possible, it is probably best to combine "The vigilantes", "Merchant" and "Cheerful Metropolis" in one scenario of Rise to Prosperity. While the latter two can also be done in the "Restore the peace" scenario, they are much easier to do when you don't have to worry about defending against a strong enemy.

It doesn't work. I followed your advice about the settings, I attacked 2 groups of brigands, I even destroyed two bandit camps, but the achievement won't trigger. I'm so disappointed. Why doesn't it work ? What can I do to get this achievement ?
