Thats just scratching the surface so dont hold your breath.
Note that this is almost never true in the end. It's probably a combo of "hope", "under-estimating" and "marketing." If they said "could be 5+years" it doesn't sound as good. Also, longer in EA, the more player input is gathered and the more features/plans alter and creep.
This dev/game could be the rare exception (there are some of those around) but just saying. eg, Don't read that Early Access "hope to" line as a promised timeline. Because it's not. One can hope for a 1-2 years total, but it could be more like total of 3+ years.
I wonder what the average is for early-access titles. In terms of the many i've kept track of - including some that were quite playable/whole games on first ea release - it's probably been ... 5-6 years. ;p
