Banished. It's on a grid system like Minecraft so every building is square/rectangular and roads/fields follow that. It does not have conflict features or feature multiple "maps."

Banished was a finished project, and the game developer got hired to work on other games.

Best community Mods for this game are Colonial Charter, and Mega Mod 8 or 9.

There is also Patron, good game that is a banished type.

Then you have all of the other ones Farthest Frontier, Settlement Survivor, Kingdoms reborn, Foundation, and several mixed type games of the more survival / after the holocaust type games like New Cycle etc.

Forgot to mention "Ostriv" another long term EA game of this type. very nice work on this game continues.

Also recommend Ostriv for the town building aspect. Dawn of Man you might consider if the time period appeals to you, it has building and combat.

Here -- Try this -- https://store.steampowered.com/app/413150/Stardew_Valley/

It's got farms and goats and chickens and fields of wheat and fishing and beer.

You can build buildings and make ale.

For you battle fanbois who want to make this game into LotR, it has monsters in caves.

And for the MP co-op fanbois, it has multiplayer co-op campaign.

(No lampreys, but it does have eels and nasty looking mutant carp.)

Enjoy.

This is nothing even close to Manor Lords - what are you smoking?
I dont recall any relationship building or love interests or having to manually water your crops? Or day night cycle to be finished by? You MUST be in the wrong game forum....

Banished
Ostriv
Farthest Frontier

Some older games, that I'm sure were an inspiration to this project:

* Stronghold (the first one - it's been recently remastered)
* Knights and Merchants. Very similar feels, but it's it's a late 90s game

No on-screen combat:
- Ostriv - the best of the bunch in any case
- Foundation
- Banished - the classic

On-screen combat:
- Farthest Frontier
- Stronghold - oldie but goldie

What do you mean 'nothing even close'?

They both have farms.
They both have crops to plant and harvest.
They both have goats (and in Stardew, you can milk them..
They both have chickens that give you eggs.
They both have horses.
They both have wheat.
They both have ale.
They both have swords.
They both have combat.
They both have carrots.
They both have farm houses.
They both have trees to plant and harvest.
They both have other regions to settle.
They both have cows.
They both let you pick berries.
Manor lords has the Baron, but Stardew has evil JoJo Corporation.

And to repeat -- Stardew has monsters in caves for the battle fanbois who want to make this game into LotR, and it has multiplayer co-op campaign for the MP co-op fanbois.

There are slight differences in the mechanics, to be sure, but that's mostly for time management.

And most importantly, they both make you use your brain instead of just whacking and shooting ♥♥♥♥.

What more do you want?

I began with Medieval Dynasty first, loved that and found this when (like you) I was looking for more.

I find Medieval Dynasty is similar but different enough that it's not the same game. The setting is similar; the buildings are familiar, but your role is different; you're essentially one of the villagers. You start with nothing, create your own first rudimentary stone-age tools to get started, then build your first home, and eventually an entire village complete with many of the same buildings you know here.

The similarities are sweeping; the medieval setting, with many of the same tasks, same buildings, similar scenery, RTS, and changing seasons. The differences are many.

Although the scenery is similar in character, MD scenery is hand-crafted and very elegant as you journey through it; the landscapes are often gorgeous and as I travel throughout the rural countryside in real-life modern day, the views often remind me of Medieval Dynasty. MD is an FPS-styled game, which mostly is useful for hunting. Combat is very limited, consisting of prey animals, predatory animals which can stalk you, and bandits. Combat/hunting manages to be entertaining without being particularly challenging, even for older people like myself. Another major difference is the focus on skill-building, which makes your villagers uniquely qualified for different roles within your village and sets you apart from the rest, as your skills will develop more quickly than theirs until the late game. Another major difference is the focus on improving tool technology, which increasingly affects the productivity of yourself and your villagers. There are also continuous quests available to do or ignore as you choose, both provided by either an established quest-line, or generated randomly with each changing season. Finally, while ML has goals which clearly define win/lose outcomes, MD is more of a sandbox without an clear outcome or ending. Your villagers as well as your own character and NPC wife will have children, whose skills are influenced by their parentage, who will also grow up in time and become active villagers too. Your first challenge will be to survive your first winter. After that, the only way I've found to lose (game over!) is getting killed by environmental damage, predators, or bandits before having an heir. If this happens after you have an heir you can simply continue playing, as your son. One plays until they get bored and either move on to something else or begin again with a different build location on the map, or a new map. It's re-playable and immersive enough to be worth the price (especially on sale). ML on the other hand, appears to be an epic game in the making that will probably enjoy superior re-playability and a more satisfying ending to each game; after all, it's nice to have some recognition for success and completion -- "You won! Try again?"
