You shouldn't need a trade route to trade just let the Trading Post know you have goods to sell and the wandering peddlers will take it off your hands.
That literally didn't change between the release version and the beta test.
Like, at all?
In fact, to point out the sheer fallacy of your argument here, firewood wasn't even free to open a route in the released version.... All minor routes in beta are exactly, note the word here: EXACTLY, the same. Literally nothing changed, my friend.
Let me make this clearer: The only thing, THE ONLY things I should say, that changed price wise in the Trade Post is...the hilarious exponential route opening cost (Which, to be fair, needs to be toned down some...just not much, it's a great idea honestly), and the fact that you can't crash the market so fast.
Brah, load up the game. Look for yourself. There is plenty of free trade. There is literally no difference between release version and the beta test. At all. All minor routes work, get ready for it, EXACTLY the same.
Here, I'll make it easier for you, and them...
There are THREE, count them, THREE literal changes between the release version of trade and the beta test version.
THREE.
1: Trade prices don't fluctuate as much, or as badly, which means no more crashing the market instantly, and even when you do you can still sell for very little... Good change!
2: Traders don't come from the closest edge now: Honestly, damn good idea. Good change, yay...
3: Opening routes costs an exponential amount every time: Uh...good idea in practice, very good idea in practice, but needs tuning, for sure.
That is it.
For you, not OP, you can still trade your crap away for free in the beta test.
Just like in the release version.
Beta release. Challenging start. Literally three major routes unlocked. I'm trying to focus on other game so I don't forget what I'm doing in it, cause old, but currently at 10k regional wealth and even taking around 300 or so in taxes out of it every month, still a slow, steady increase in regional.
So, no. No idea what I'm talking about.
Note, didn't even unlock the FIRST major route until like year 2 or 3 or something like that. And it was boots, cause...well, tanner and rich hunting grounds...
That's not a start. Start a new game Dingus. It will only take you a few minutes (Psst... you'll start with zero cash).
That doesn't change the fact that you have a good dozen or so things you can trade right off the bat without having to open a major route?
Like...like I did in that screenshot I posted, when it first started?
I mean, I really don't feel the need to take the time to start a new game, take a screenshot of nothing in pockets, then play the game for a few hours to take another screenshot to show you that it's possible...
If you really, REALLY think you can't trade minor route things without opening a trade route, there is nothing I can do to convince you of reality.
Other person even posted a screenshot of almost the same thing. Of them trading goods without opening a route for minor goods. You don't need to do that. It makes it sell faster, and more, yes...but...they trade without it...
As an edit: Hell, build a stone camp as soon as you can and start selling rocks. And your spare firewood. And...I mean, everything that is a minor route... Your problem is solved...
Literally 2 minutes into the game.
Why would I? Its...a beta test. It isn't even released yet. It would kind of defeat the purpose...at least in my mind. That save is beta test only. Hell, all my saves are currently. I even deleted all my old ones just to make sure I didn't accidentally introduce errors on my part.
Also, tell me what setting it is that makes even minor routes cost money to even be able to use, because I can't seem to find any such setting. And I even took the time to start a few games, with multiple different choices. Not really into 'lotto' and hoping I manage to get the exact settings your using. Like, I'm currently doing not what I want to do, just because your kind of being a ♥♥♥♥ about people trying to understand, and help you, and I'd like to see this stuff myself.
Edit: Yea, I give up. I just started like 10 different games trying to figure out what setting makes it so you can't even trade on minor routes. Unless OP wants to reveal what I'm doing wrong somehow, I give up trying to figure out why they can't trade. Cause no matter what I do, I can't get minor trade routes to be locked up like they apparently are for them. They are always free, no matter what settings I choose.
When I started new game, and builded trading post, I earned my first 200 coins traded planks WITHOUT paid for open trade route. And yes, this was VERY VERY SLOWLY unlike if I paid for this trade route.
As you can see, until now, I successfully trade planks WITHOUT OPEN trade route for them:

Apparently they found some combination of settings that makes it so even minor trade routes are locked. What, and how, I have no idea. I gave up. I've got other things I want to do other then start a game over and over, and over (and over....) trying to figure out how and what they did to make that happen.
I straight up gave up trying to get what you say is happening to happen.
Can't get it. I tried, before I shrugged and went about other things, a dozen different combinations of start settings.
Literally none of them gave any result where the trade post wouldn't let me trade on minor routes without opening them first.
If you are going to be kind of a condescending ♥♥♥♥ about it, why not just reveal whatever combination you are using that CAUSES this. Because nobody else has gotten it, it seems, and if its just you then its probably a bug. Since, as far as I'm aware, and everyone else is aware, there is no way to have the minor trade routes locked out.
And, to add, since you are TESTING BETA and you are the only one that seems to be able to do this, file a bloody report about it then. So maybe, down the line, if someone manages to replicate it themselves, whatever IS causing it can get fixed.
Because nobody else is having this problem see?
And, despite every combination of settings, I couldn't find any way to reproduce what your suffering from.
There has been literally no photographic evidence of what you are talking about, at all, to point this out.
I'm actually kind of confused when, and where, you are seeing this.
As an edit here: The few photos that HAVE been posted have shown exactly the opposite of what your problem is, see? So, again...yes. Please. Photos of your problem. Maybe someone, somewhere, can figure out how to reproduce it then.
