Sometimes I find its better to orient the building elsewhere where there is plenty of space and then gently, gently, coax it into position.
One trick I just thought of to make it easier would be if you first place a road where you want it to face, then have it snap to that road. Then if you didn't want a direct road connection you can delete the road afterwards.
Also remember that you can turn road snapping on and off if that's what's causing your issues.
