Food prioreties are all jacked up
It makes no sense that berries are considered the first item people eat. it should be bread. this makes no logical sense, for gameplay or realism. bread was the main component of everyone diet in the past. then it was vegetables (or anything they can get their hands on). same can be said about meat. it was considered wasteful to eat a cow or chicken, since they produce passive food. I know we're talking about Game meat but it was still less consumed than eggs or vegetables.

In terms of gameplay, berries are not a long term food item, they are needed for dye. The granaries take them way too quickly.

A more realistic food priority:
- Bread
- Vegetables
- eggs
- apples
- meat
- honey
- berries

My suggestion on how to fix the over stockpile of lesser prio food items
for Burgages (LVL 3 for example) four different food items, but instead of eating all for the whole month, it will be spread out in two months. this means upgrading houses ends up consuming more food compared to lesser houses but this was realistic in the past.

food consumption rate:
lvl1: consumes 1 same food per month, or 2 different in two months.
lvl2: consumes 2 same food per month, or 3 different in two months
lvl3: consumes 3 same food per month, or 4 different in two months

if separating in two months is too much of an issue for game development, increase yield for crops, and have them consume more food.

Food consumption priority has been randomized in the beta patch. This should fix your issue.

I still wonder why I never see some types of food in stock. I know we run out of berries, but why there are never eggs or honey in stock, it doesn't matter how many chicken farms or if I have two apiaries with 4 workers each, there is never a good supply of either in stock.

It would be nice to actually know more exact numbers on many things. How many eggs is each Burgage Plots producing? How much honey is each apiary producing with 1 worker? And with 4 workers? How much vegetable is this Burgage Plots producing? And this big one? Basic information of this type, not to mention information that doesn't need to be so clear, such as, what is the reproduction rate of animals!? What is the growth rate of berries? And so on.

Well it is not realistic, if you tones of berries to eat straight way a village would go for that. Bread takes time as you need a crop to grow and a lot of good luck.
''it was considered wasteful to eat a cow or chicken''

Kinda no for the cow, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ no for the chicken. Don't think you realize, but roughly 50% of the kids your animals pop out are males, and we don't have a need for males really, one per herd is enough. So for chicken, let it grow for a few weeks, then eat it, for the bulls, it is either castration to turn them into oxens, or eat them too.

Don't worry, we have 'history' to tell us differently! Everyone knows, right?...right?
But, ya. That always bothered me about the Victorians take on the 'dark ages'. Like, sure, superiority complex and all that, but...seriously... Meat was rare? So...they just let useless animals that didn't produce product wander around without ever thinking 'Maybe we should eat that...'
Right. Go 'history'.
Like, somehow the concept of 'Male fowl don't lay eggs' somehow escaped the commoners minds, and what a shame cause there were chickens and other fowl running around the place... Now, if only male birds didn't lay eggs so we could eat them..le sigh...

Uh...yeah... Such a pet peeve. Just don't mention Agincourt around me, and how people STABBING PEOPLE WITH KNIVES AND SHOVELS IN THE MUD means longbows are leet.

Op is falling for one of the most idiotic medieval funfact that is utterly wrong, but being peddled by those ''10 medieval facts you didn't know'' channels on youtube and by boulevard polaroids. Only surpassed by people didn't know how to find drinkable water till the 19th century and thus only drank alcohol. Obviously we all just didn't drink anything till we disovered hops.
Logical fallacies are everywhere. Doesn't help that a lot of written sources were written either way later, or not by experts, but poets and other people, who had a very liberal look on facts, and even less clue about most things (the water thing is a good example, a 15th century poet and writer whose ''works'' still remain claimed that people should not drink water, cause it gives you daughters).

Also just to dunk on OP again: Berries make sense to eat first, cause unless you turn those suckers into jam, they are gonna spoil quicker than my mood when I discover that I ran out of alcohol and now have to die due to dehydration.
