Kings Tax needs to stay
Until we get Ai factions on the map I feel Kings Tax needs to be kept as it is. For those complaining, they just need to learn that it's challenging but not too difficult. It might take a few years but first get exporting a resource like roof tiles or Iron as soon as possible. Export planks, shoes etc to begin with. You must let your regional wealth build to at least 1k for you to recieve over 100 gold a month. Just keep it above that. It slows expansion down but it will happen. If you have over 1k regional wealth thats 1.2k Gold a year you can earn in Tax. The Kings Tax will he nowhere near that. Also don't forget to raid bandit camps to help you early on

Play slower, smartly and specialize your regions

I like this idea. Once a settlement reaches level 3, you receive a letter from the king demanding the king's tax.

I don't think most people are saying get rid of Kings Tax entirely - just wanting a retune of it. I know you can turn it off completely, but some people might like the concept of the King's Tax, they just don't want it to be that punishing or restrictive to game playstyles. Which I think is fair - balance means there has to be more than one path to the door, so to speak.

If anything, serious "hardcore" difficulty people could be the ones who have to use optional settings to get that experience. The "base"/normal, perhaps, shouldn't be that.

It is customizable. You can turn the Kings Tax off. Did you not know this? It seems to me that people want features removed that aren't even necessary in the first place? I don't get it

I don't want to turn it off. It makes sense that it's there. But along with the exponential trade route prices, it's not just no fun, it's forcing you to rush into highly efficient trading (good luck if the resources don't fit that), and building everything to max efficiency with pretty much no margin for error nor differences in playstyles.

In the screenshot, I'm in year 15 or so, no combat, a supposedly relaxing experience. Trade route prices for material i can sell are now 2.5k and up. Royal tax 1.5k. Tried taxing at 30%, hence the low approval.

The changes are great in principle, they just need better balancing.

Just wait for a mod in the coming days to tune it

Ok so there's an easy solution to all this. Have a setting for King Tax's that is either easy, medium and hard. Then everyone is happy

It appears that the game is on a path to self-destruction by pandering to a small group of elitist gamers who take pride in their skills. The majority of its customers are not so self-centered, and we don't need things to be made more difficult just to stroke our egos.

At the very least, these 'make the game nearly impossible to play' enhancements should be optional and tiered. So, that the features they represent are still usable by average players who just want to play the game.

I don't play ML with mods. I'd rather the balancing be done by the developer.

Balancing... Exactly what people (including myself) have been asking for.

I tend to agree, however, it is a pre-release beta, and the reactions should tell the developer that balancing needs more work. It's not that the ideas are bad (they are not), it's that balancing is completely out of whack right now.

I've just started a game with combat, and... I suck at it. "maximize regional wealth"-- yeah, I'm trying, but the traders don't show up regularly anymore, you need to expand your town to have enough people to actually do everything, and then also have enough money for military.

And then people have been saying, just go raid a bandit camp. Yet when I try the game tells me that because it's not my region, I can't. I'm lost, tbh. And I think I'll be returning to non-military play. This is a me issue, I know, but it's just not what I enjoy from a game. I like a challenge, but "relaxing" is just defined a lot differently in my mind.

Yea but there are clearly others like myself who are ok with the way it is in regards to challenge so give those an option who want it tuned to be easier while giving others the option to keep it as it is

Nobody has been asking to remove the new features. All calls have been toward "please balance it better for those in easy/relaxing mode".

I appreciate that there are players who have more time on their hands (and thus more experience probably, or more patience to figure out every minutiae) and likely better skills, and I don't begrudge them their challenge. But if there is a relaxing mode clearly stated, then cranking up trade route prices exponentially while also stunting growth due to the necessity of heavy taxation in order to fulfil the king's tax -- that's just not relaxing, nor is it fun.

If major challenge is what the game turns out to be, I'm happy to have paid €30 for a few dozen hours of gaming and not touch it again. But I really like the game and its premise and its look and feel, and I'm hoping that the new features (and others to be added) are more balanced. Simple as that.

They need to balance it, otherwise every playthrough will be the same.
And i think they really need to change how to deal with the dead body, i am fine you need to bury your own, but build lot's of pit for the war is just stupid, i would rather just let me burn it.

How’s the tax calculated ? In my game, year 3-4, it only amount to 70g per year. No struggle at all. I barely trade as well.

Bro instead of preaching let's keep the game harder like it is do you see people complaining and asking question every minute? You can be a helpful person and answer those questions if you're good at this game so they're as good as you

I never claimed you were asking to remove it. I'm stating that there should be a difficulty option with it so players who like it as it is can keep it and players who want it tuned down can select a different difficulty for balancing their game how they like. Then everyone is happy wouldn't you agree?

I have answered those questions. I even advised players how to get up to scratch with the Kings Taxes. Read my comments
