Well, not for the first winter.
THOUGH if you leave people there, during November they will help hand-plow any veggie farms.
Farmers:
* plow, then seed farmlands in Sept-Nov and any empty fields left in Spring.
* harvest/cut crops and leave them in the fields in Sept-Nov, and if you specify an early harvest for the field immediately starts harvesting.
* move crops to the farmhouse (Granary carts help, too)
* thrash/thresh wheat and rye in the farmhouse
So if you've reduced thrashing's priority, after the Fall harvest the crops will be in the farmhouse. Then they can thrash all winter, if there's enough crops.
But no, not really.
Just like there's no reason for berry gatherers from July-Feb.
