Charcoal necessity?
This is just my opinion but it seems like putting a point into the charcoal kiln (Charcoal burning) feels too important/necessary. There's a lot of pretty decent skills in the skill tree but the kiln just feel more important because the massive amount of wood and manpower needed to get wood. If points weren't limited it wouldn't really make a difference at all.

It's more of an observation than a complaint. Maybe i'm wrong?

I'm currently playing the game as a sim builder, with no combat, in case that weighs on examining the balance of the skill tree.

i think it should be a research thing rather than a finite amount of points imo

It helps later on to supply fuel to bigger towns but isn't needed if you have enough choppers and foresters. However since you need charcoal to get to deep mining, if you're intending to do alot of smelting etc you might find the charcoal more advantageous.

There's only a finite amount of points because it stops at large town. Still have small city, medium city and large city.. and maybe something after that. Give at least 4 more points for variation.

Ooh, I like that idea. I thought it was great in the game Rimworld, doing the research thing.

Not needed at all, its not hard to be swimming in firewood anyway. Out of my 3 regions only 1 has invested in it, and that's only because i wanted to try it out.

Other two regions have a surplus of firewood.

It isn't needed, but I love Charcoal. It's the best thing to export early game, making one firewood equal ten silver (five per charcoal).

Some "perks" are so overpowered and others so underpowered that they kinda eat away the variety they were/are supposed to provide as you kind of have to pick them. It would make sense to have, say, a university building, which would allow you to share one perk from the region to other regions. This would allow picking some of the less powerful perks too.

I think each region that reaches large city should yield a global research point (so about 9 in total if you take whole map) which when applied gives all regions that research. This way you wouldn't just be able to spam global research, you'd have to develop multiple regions.

At this size universities make no sense, its obvious there will be more points in the circle tho, but it makes sense to have to specialize regions, I also think the actual map will be quite ab it bigger so you will want to have some small towns doing just bee keeping or something

it would be nice in the mean time in Early access to have some way to respec tho, so you are less punished for trying stuff out,

That sounds really weird.
So your last tech would be global and lets say that is "wax".
Too bad, can't make use of it because I don't have the prerequisite tech for bees/honey

Sounds rather limiting and weird to balance/programm around.

I need to try the trade skills, I haven't went that way yet on the skill tree. I'll go with that the next time.
