No more raiders warning?
The first time the raiders came there was a 1 year warning and a countdown. The second time they just showed up, no warning. Is it supposed to be like that?

Yes, first time you have time to prepare, which is very helpful as at the beginning you don't have any means to defend yourself. So this countdown helps you prepare on time. Later on the game assumes you know what's up.

The worst part of this, is if you build your town in one of the bordering provinces (which is pretty much every one except of Waldbrand), the raiders can show up right at your doorstep. Which is really bad if you have your town closer to the edge of the map.

One way to survive, if you have limited troops, but play scenario with Baron, is to avoid fighting and make the raiders follow your troop around and lead them on to Baron's army. He always deploys his troops when raiders are present.

If you don't choose the option to track them, they won't tell you when they are coming. I tried the other option the second time to check what happened and what happened is I had a surprise bandit party haha

That's a good point about the edge of the map! They'll charge right in and can do massive damage while your militia is still rallying. I've just started tinkering with walls, but for bases on the edge you could probably use walls to good effect to delay raiders
