This assignment should only be valid for one timber log, afterwards the family should be unassigned again.
To address balance of making hitching post free:
1. Don't allow horse purchase from hitching post (need to upgrade to Stable first, or build Trade Post / Livestock Trader)
2. Stables and Traders could cost 1 extra wood plank.
I think animal management in general needs to improve. For example, if an animal is assigned to a farm or logging camp, for example, the animal should reside in those buildings, not some random hitching post on the other side of town. We should be able to manually move animals between suitable "homes" (hitching post, stable, pasture, etc. - as applicable) in the same way we can change jobs of citizens.
Restart/Reload game from last save.
The solution should be to allow transfer of an oxen or money from another region. If the dev hasn't gotten around to it that's fine. If the dev thinks it's unrealistic that an ox or 20 coin can be walked across a field to the next region, they're out of their mind.
If you got as far as being actually raided, you better abbandon the run and start new. You would need a new start even if the game gets patched anyway.
Use what you learned to be better in the new run, being raided and losing oxen is not something you should ever allow.
That is silly. Why cannot you just donate your personal money to the region? And this would allow to buy ox.
