How many fields per farm house?
https://youtu.be/R3Q_nFBFRYc?si=dLQBFjLyNZCZ4_Eb
I have just watched this video and was surprised to notice that TheOnlyL0nzY has built three farmhouses for three 1 x Morgen Fields. He doesn't explain why and I've asked in the YouTube comments for an explanation.

I've heard it suggested that building multiple farmhouses is useful because it increases the number of oxen you can employ for ploughing. The game only allows one ox per farmhouse. But in the video he only seems to have one ox anyway and he seems to be using the two extra farm houses for Threshing the wheat. e.g. 1 x Harveting 2 x Threshing.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with threshing though, its something that can be done after the harvest is gathered.

Any thoughts?

It's probably to speed up threshing. If you have say 3 fields with crop rotation to one farmhouse the peasants all harvest the fields and bring the wheat back to the farmhouse (in that order they do not take things back until the field is completely harvested), then they all go back out to the fields and plow/sow them for the upcoming season and then they all come back again to the farmhouse to thresh (they don't split the duties say half thresh, half sow). Only after all that do they all take the grain to the granary for further processing. If you do a 1 to 1 ratio the farmers at each spend less time in the field theoretically I'd assume.

The oxen aren't really that useful, just put 6-8 families to your farmhouse when need arises. I have 5 active fields (1-1.5 morgen) in a farmhouse and they manage. I think multiple farmhouses close by might bring issues.

In my current game I have 1 fully staffed farmhouse (no ox) and 6 one morgen fields with it.

With crop rotation, 2 of those 6 fields are always fallow and the crew manages this well.

If needed I pull the workers from that farm once they are done with their tasks. For the most part they only are actively doing things in September, October, November and maybe threshing in December. If the harvest is ready before September, I force harvest then.

I guess the biggest bottleneck with auto farming is harvesting as automatically it will be done only in September.

I wish there was a setting to start harvest automatically once the field is at 100% (current force harvest will work with 25% I think).

Also would be nice to have an option not to re-plow the field in the same season. As it is now, you kind of have to watch it manually.

Yea.. the way the fields work is a classic sign that the dev no longer plays the game himself. Understandable, being working on it for so long, but stuff that a dev playing the game would fix quite quickly as it's a) easy to fix b) annoying as donkey's scream.

I build one farmhouse for each type of crop I grow simultaneously. Example - I have 9, 1.5 morgan fields. I plant Barley, Rye and flax all in the same year. I rotate each crop on a 3 year cycle. I have one farmhouse per type of crop which allows me to have three oxen plowing at the same time.
