2024 EA FAQ
13. Is there a multiplayer or cooperative gameplay mode in Manor Lords?
* The focus is on a refined single-player experience, with no multiplayer or cooperative modes planned at the moment.
Damn. I'll hold off on this game then.
Thanks for taking the time.
Check out broken arrow. Comes out later this year and will have more open beta tests soon. It's 5v5 multiplayer modern realistic military rts game with good graphics and it's sooo much fun.
however, the potential for coop is there.
and the battles looks better than anything totalwar has done in years.
not being able to make multiplayer battles would be an immense shame.
anyway, the game will make alot of sales given its popularity.
and as the success of the game grow bigger and money comes in, the dev might consider adding multiplayer once he is satisfied with the solo experience.
Single player is always should first and is basic of foundations of game essentials, after that once everything is done on single player, then multiplayer can be done add once single player and base of game foundations is done, key is that people had to enjoy single player first before multiplayer, otherwise no one want to buy game that are not fun to play in single player, I think more player do not had any friend that play with game with them more than player who do had friend to play with them, plus internet issues, single player don't need anyone and internet to play while multiplayer do need more than one person and internet to play, plus more coding.
Forced on single player game would be soon faster, if they half force on single and multiplayer, then it's take long time to complete whole game features much longer than single player force work alone, so it's best forced on building game on based of single player one at a time, not forced on 2 thing,
good examples Simcity (2013) Why it's failed? Because they forced on single player and multiplayer player, Before then, Simcity 4 is successful because they don't forced on multiplayer but a forced on build single player is why Simcity 4 was successful.
Don't get me wrong Multiplayer can add fun factor game, but only single player game base core is fully done and finished with everything game features and whole gameplay then they would add multiplayer to the game, not before then.
Unless they had two team, one team force on single while other team forced on multiplayer, it's might be okay but it's solo developers, so it's not going work when one person forced on single player and multiplayer at same time, increase workforce, easier forget, oversight on gameplay design/plan/work.
Other good example Medieval dynasty, they was supposed to add shield, armor but they go ahead add coop gameplay, it's took 2 years where they could add shield and armor in matter of few month to half years, not 2 to 3 year later because of coop for example, coop/multplayer make work take forever when there is should be other gameplay and features add ton already and sooner if not for coop/multplayer work.
I see and noticed time again and again company try both gameplay design at same time, it's end up not so great or bad gameplay or gameplay isn't complete, I perfer they forced on single player first with complete before MMO add to it that, if they work on MMO before single player complete, there would be lot of cut down game features, less of gameplay core.
single player and multplayer at same time is bad idea, when they forced on multplayer first, then single player game end up as cheap gameplay/bored gameplay because of multplayer design, I did noticed many time like that on game design philosophy when company work on single player only, multplayer only, and both at same time on couple game.
