egg production?
i see in the tooltip that veggie farms increase yield with production...what about chickens? im having an issue getting comfortable food surpluses once i hit 200 people.
really wish we could plant some sort of beans that dont require processing like the grains do.

I would like to know this as well. I've noticed the models only show like 2 or 3 chickens no matter the size of the backyard, so I've just been making all my small plots chickens. Please correct me if I'm wrong because it's so hard to get a surplus of eggs.

What I did to combat food shortages (Works early on as well, if you don't want to use hunting or gathering for the achievement), is making the homes with carrot farms exceptionally long in order to boost carrot harvesting. Once I got up to around where your issues start, I had around a constant of 800+ carrots at any given time. They're by far the best and most reliable source of food as far as I've seen so far. Far outshining any of the actual farms you build.

What I did was set up item production homes as shorter and used them to produce enough to sell in order to purchase constant food of every type other than eggs and set up some homes with shorter spaces as chicken farms as well. I only ever started to run into issues with firewood, as long as the majority of my homes had decent land with carrot farms.

But firewood is easily combated as long as you're willing to put a point toward Charcoal and put the people needed behind producing enough of it.

I can't recommend the trade route technology enough. Knocking out trade tariffs MASSIVELY reduces the overall cost of trading and makes it possible to get pretty much everything you need without much issue. I was buying alcohol, armor, weapons, food, etc without ever getting close to running out of money, so long as I was producing enough with my homesteads to make a profit off of items. Just rotate between shield types when the prices go down. Halt bow production once those go down, rotate weapon production as needed as well. With trading, the game is pretty much on easy mode, tbh.

apple farms are by far the best for food production

single plot produces 1 egg, no matter the size, dual plot produces 2 eggs
a plot, either single or dual, currently consumes only 1 food item, so if you have 6 houses, 3 dual plots or 6 single plot houses can feed them all with eggs

IMO it should produce at the minimum 2 eggs per single plot as now you need half the houses in your town to produce eggs if you want it to be sustainable

Once you're over roughly 150 families Eggs, Meat, Honey production is so low that supply barely lasts 1-2 months. It is only when the eggs, meat or honey is collected that you'll have the opportunity to upgrade houses as it'll only show supply for the short period.

Bread, Vegs and Berries On the other hand can last in supply for over a year.

Berries can also be harvested whilst growing.. as well as once grown. Bread and Veg can only be produced once per cycle.

egg doesnt scale on size,

i dont know exact number, but if u want egg as main food source, u can only have like 2 veggie farm + brewer+weapon+shield+armor+1 or 2 more production building, every other house should be producing eggs.

hint here, tier 2 house only require 3 food to be satisfied. so only ur central region upgrade to tier 3, ur far away farmhouse peasant or production center who do weapon armor shield could just stay tier1 or tier2 (yes move ur production center slightly further away from marketplace)

veggie is like one of the main source for everyone, and if u start on berry rich , use berry x2 tech will make berry ur main source, egg is good for 3rd source, then u dont need too much on final choice, little meat +some import will do , or u dont even need to satisfy all of ur tier3 houses to stay over 75% approval

if u start on animal rich, then theres 2 tech +1 policy to make meat main source
So i see alot of conjecture about eggs. I set up a test village using wemod. I build 5 houses for my 5 starting families. i gave myself resources and upgraded all 5 plots to lvl 3 with the home extension. 20 families. i set my food to 0 and fast forwarded.
Each month 5 eggs would appear in my food tooltip and quickly be eaten. Based on that it would be 1 egg per plot. I also tested food consumption and it reflected 1 unit per family with the above 5 plots. food consumption was 20 units per month..not 5 or even 10. This absolutey could be wrong. im just going of what i seen at face value.

I have around 65 families and I currently have 480 eggs. I'm gonna check how many homes have chickens, because now I'm curious.

I know I made a whole lot of chicken coops because I got pretty excited when I found out homes can have chickens. Haha

Only veggies and apple orchards get increased yield from larger plots. Chicken and goats produce the same regardless of size.

Egg/food consumption is 1 unit per plot irrespective on how many families live there.

Egg production is 1 per family on that plot.

So if you have built a double plot, upgraded to tier 3 with 4 families on that double plot you will have 1 egg consumption monthly but produce 4 eggs monthly.

Chickens produce eggs depending on the number of families on the plot, ie, 1 per family per month. I haven't tested it yet but rational thinking would suggest goats may be the same for hides.

Do you have a lot of meat, berry and/or bread production? I believe meat is the first food item consumed, followed by berries, bread, and then eggs. You can build up quite a surplus of eggs if you have plenty of meat, berries and bread.
