EDIT:
I would recommend to set specific work areas for wood log camp and foresters hut, aswell as for the firewood building. So every builddding and their families have specific work areas and give you a good feeling for coordinated work.
They plant trees. It'll take a long time before they're fully grown tho. I usually end up with two foresters, both with 2 workers, with the same defined work area. End up with a giant circle of trees that keeps multiple loggers/woodcutters etc. occupied.
Once you reach a decent stockpile of firewood/logs for a bit, you can pause those productions and let the trees grow for a while, too. Then resume.
I have 2 foresters huts, both covering the same area as my logging camp and woodcutter's lodge. During the first year or two, the area is fairly stripped out but then the new trees start coming into effect and it grows back into a full dense forest of basically unlimited trees for cutting.
I wish they wouldn't sometimes plant them in the middle of the King's Road, though. ;)
