Is it okay to build your manor early.
I can finally afford my own manor so i can tax the people i think... so i can get mercenaries or just my own money. but i noticed during the manor placement option, there was also walls, towers that i can build but i cant afford to build yet. All i can afford is a manor. Will the game let me build those buildings like towers and walls later in the game?

Yes there is an option called castle planner and you can build up your manor later. Although it's pointless to tax a percentage of regional wealth if there is no or very little regional wealth.

Just don't wall the entire town in. That isn't the intention for it (currently) and it could break things/access. And I think the towers are only decorative right now.

You can do the tower and walls later, but as above, don't extend the walls out, the village isn't programmed to deal with walls going everywhere lol.

Also... if you can, create your first 6 militia before building the manor - at the moment the game is not letting you create your 6th milita unit if you have already unlocked the retinue, so this is the best workaround for now.

Okay. My manor just got built also, I noticed that 2 families can live there ... as servants?? Does that mean theyre taken away from my work pool so they can be servants in my manor? not sure what they do as servants too

just some advice on the tax system.

your manor will give you the option to tax as low as 10% of whatever is in your region wealth.

-> edit <-
it's been pointed out to me by Catperson & Banzera that you can indeed lower the taxation values down to 1% if you wish! which also lowers the negative modifier!
->edit <-

(keeping the 10% modifier as an eg) so if you have 100 regional wealth you will take 10 coins for your treasury and your population with get a -6 approval.

this debuff stacks

the worst I've had it is -15 taxation with the "recent 30 days" also giving me an additional -6 for a total of -21 taxation debuff.
----------

so early game taxing your peasants for 5-10 coins for your treasury isn't really worth it.

once your regional wealth get's to around 500+ an you can take a 10% tax off the top for 50 coins, that's when it'll start to be come worth it.

currently i'm in the mid to late game and i can just about have the taxation running every month due to all of the extra approval bonuses and i'm earning around 100-120 coins for my treasury.

the point is it's more important to keep growing your town an getting to 75% approval rating so you can "lure" 2 families a month into your settlement and focus on building up a reliable trade network so you can THEN tax them!

but honestly, play the game how you like & go with the flow, hope that helps! :steamhappy:

You can manually lower the tax rate if you wish, by typing it in. The minimum is not 10%. I've had it at 1% before. Heh.

so you can!

my mistake! when i last tried it, it bugged out on me so i just left it as the default of 10!

and adding onto that, the lower you go the negative approval modifier changes to reflect the lower taxation values!

awesum! :steamhappy:

You can tax any amount. You can click the number to change it to be anything. The buttons change it by 10% increments, but you don't have to use those.

Nope. It's just two additional families having no propose with two additional living spaces. So nothing changes in terms of your living space / workforce. But they can serve in militia, so it's like 4 free recruits to your militia.
