Claiming or fighting for territory

One the computer controlled Manor Lord claims every territory around you, is the only way to claim them yourself then to build up 2000 influence and then whatever happens, happens, as I am a million miles from 2000 influence!

While learning the game a bit I'm on the setting where I don't get attacked, but the comp manor lord will defend if I attack, but looking at the map, the computer lord doesn't build anything to actually attack, just claims everything.

As it stands, unless I'm doing it wrong, instead of creating my militias and saying "c'mon lads, lets get cracking and take that territory" I actually have to give all my food away to the church for years to gain this 2000 influence, and then what? As it stands, I can't use my militias for anything and I can't really face waiting years of game play while I endlessly farm for the church to get these influence points.

I do hope this will change as the game develops.

If you have raiders enabled, you can get 2k Influence pretty easily. I have raiders come at least once a year and its like 500+ influence after every battle.

Building a Manor will give you influence and upgrading your church will also give influence. The church upgrade is capped at 2 per province if I remember correctly, so you can have 2 upgraded churches per region and get influence from them both. Keep checking your map for bandit camps and beat the AI there to clear them for the loot and influence. Probably too late for this playthrough but useful to do for your next one.

Also, if you have excess food supplies, you can turn on the tithe tax at your manor, where it trades donated food to the church for influence.

Since that post, I now have raiders activated and yes building up the influence is very easy to do to claim 2 extra regions easily.
