If you start off with no rich iron then see what you do have an abundance of and setup an economy to sell some of that while buying what you are lacking in order to build your military. Or take over a region with rich iron mines and then use the town point to make it unlimited.
So starting a new game, i think my last one may have been on a hard difficulty by mistake or simply bugged. A few things, from last game, 1. Rivals started claiming territories right away, I did see the warning but my 'gifted weapons' were not nearly enough...i had like two stacks of 10 while the enemy had stacks of 36 with weapons. also, I could never build a manor, it was always locked telling me a need a small village...not realizing thats the first upgrade now in my second game i can build it early early. I do think i spread myself too thin as well and tried to do a little of everything rather than focus on perks of the region
When he starts to make a claim challenge him, then click on the map and select him and tell him you will pay for him to remove his claims (it doesn't charge you anything at this time) and he will always choose peace.
