I think they start planting right away, it's not a quick process,. Usually only one person works there so good for families with a veggie patch in their backyard, so go big with that.
I don't think I have seen a glitch, but I haven't paid close exclusive attention to them. But they seem to work as intended.
I think it must be similar to apple trees, about three years to be grown.
I think timber is the bottleneck in this game, so trade for planks if you can. But my strategy for the foresters is as I said above and just keep them employed there unless there's a big thing to be built. Have them manage a veggie patch, the size of the backyard effects both veggie and orchards, so I go fairly large.
I was used to the game Banished where the foresters did a circular radius of growing around the lodge/building.
The trees do seem to grow pretty quick. It didn't seem long before the trees around the building were back.
Oh. Do the bushes have any gameplay effect?
Works well.
